Excessive drooling & hating other dogs.
 

When we first started taking Ella on car rides she's drool so bad it would soak a towel. Then after awhile she got over that and now she loves going in the car. The drooling has returned though. Every time we take Ella to my sister's house (she has 3 yorkies &3 other people in the house) she'll get so frightened and drool all over the place. I am a little worried about this. Also she is terrified of her daddy yorkie (who belongs to my sister) and my sister's 2 two month old pups (they are super small, she has no reason to be scared). I am planning to get another yorkie in Oct. of this year, when Ella will be 2, but i am afraid she'll not take to it and be scared in her own home. I just don't know what to do. She was raised around only humans and cats so that's probably why she doesn't like other dogs. Some insight on this would be wonderful. Thanks. =]

I would guess the drooling is from her being stressed. Maybe you could enroll her in a "puppy class" or something similar to get her use to other dogs in a controlled setting. Hopefully others will have some suggestions.

I agree, maybe socializing her in an environment where she feels safe will help. Have you talked to your vet about it? Also, you could do a search on here for something called "Rescue Remedy" which some people use, but I'm not sure exactly what it would be effective for.

Pasquale drools a TON when he meets other dogs..but not with every dog..only certain ones. He's been doing it ever since he was a baby. I've come to the conclusion he does it mostly when he's not the aggressive one and he's a little bit nervous. i ALWAYS keep a towel in the car to wipe his little face afterwards LoL

My Laci has been VERY socialized, more so then alot of pups, I frequent the dog park, I take her out all the time to store, my daughters school , to friends houses. She is still a little teritorial when it comes to her house, but she still does okay... have you had your sister come to your house with 1 pup?? Id try that first and see how she does.... try little short trips to petsmart or petco to get her around other animal before you go out and purchase another one... you dont want to scare her.. Im sure she will come around...maybe she is drooling because she is fearful you are bringing her to your sisters house with all the other yorkies and she doesnt want to go there??

I thought of a trip to my house to see if she'd be more calm her. That's what i may end up doing. There isn't a dog park near me, only the regular park which we go to alot during the summer. I know i want another pup but i don't want Ella to go around her own home being scared all the time. She really does need some socialization w/ other dogs.

It's nice to know Ella isn't the only one that does this. She won't even go up to a dog though. She will roll over and let them sniff her or climb up my side to get away from them. It is so frustrating.

I think it's from the stress too. Hmmm, puppy classes. How would i find out about that? It would be something i'd be willing to do.

Usually Petsmart and Petco have puppy lessons and if there aren't any of those available in your area, you might want to ask your vet if he/she knows of local dog trainers. Sometimes the local city community has dog training lessons by an AKC certified individual. I bought a book by the origional 'dog whisperer' and he has a lot of suggestions on how to socialize your dog/puppy in just this situation.

by far the cheapest version is to get your sister,( as jeanm1963 suggested0to bring one dog over for a few minutes or to meet her and one of her dogs on 'nutral' territory,(a park or field, that is not too crowded) so to speak for a few minutes, so neither of them becomes too territorial and have lots of treats to give for good behavior. Walk away from each other if they seem agressive. If possible try to just walk along with your dog next to you and her dog next to her,both on leashes and while watching them from the corner of your eyes, just walk and talk and kind of ignore them but "know" what they are doing while you are walking. Try switching dogs, each walking the other, as long as they get along and don't seem to be too ankcious or jealous

My dgt. and I took our April to a small dog Meetup and she was ok,but wouldn't wonder away from us, a matter of fact she was quite clinging.We did notice something that she has never done[drooling]my dgt. or I kept wiping her mouth and trying to give her water. I think it could have been anxiety,once we left she had stopped.

Yes, she has some great ideas. I don't have either of those stores in my area so when Ella goes to the vet i plan to ask about a trainer. Hmm, where did you find that book? I am willing to try anything. My sister and i have been to the park w/ Ella and her yorkie. Ella watched him the whole time and stayed so far away from him. If he even got close she's try to run away. She just isn't socialized w/ dogs at all. That is a mistake i made when i first got her. I took her away from her brothers and sisters and my sister and her yorkie moved to Arkansas for awhile. So we had no other dogs for Ella to play w/, just cats.

Exactly what Ella does. Uggg, so frustrating.
