Wait to micro-chip? I've just read some of the posts on here about micro chipping and decided I want my puppy to get one, do I have to wait til she is older or can I get it done now? (she is 11 weeks). I'm in New York City and lately I've been seeing a lot of missing dog posters especially yorkies. I was just in the vets office 2 days ago and there was 3 posters for missing yorkies, I won't be taking her to walk outside for awhile but it's just odd how many little dogs are going missing lately. |
I have my puppies microchiped at 12 weeks before they go home. no puppy leaves my home without a chip. You can take her to the vet and have her done. hugs, carmen in nj |
I waited till I had Joey neutered, just because it sounded painful, and I thought it might be better to have him under. Some people have said that it's no more pain then a regular shot, but if it were up to me, I'd probably want them under for those too! :D So much depends on who's doing the shots or microchips, some people have better techniques than others. |
I will tell you I seen my Great Pyrenees get chipped as a puppy and the needle is way bigger than a regular shot. If I'd have known before hand that they'd do it during s/n I would have waited for him too. I know now, so that's why I waited on Bijou's chipping. She's getting spayed this week and my vet will do it once she's under. Then after she'll be on pain meds so it'll help w/both ouchies. I can tell you after seeing the needle I wouldn't want to have it stuck in me either. |

I'd feel much better with a topical anesthetic then just straight on doing it. So if I wasn't having them put under I'd definitely go that way! Thanks for the information I swear I learn so much every day on this site! |

it works wonderfully. I love this site too..:):) hugs, Carmen in nj |
If you are going to spay that is the perfect time, but if you don't want to wait our vet will put it anytime after the pup is 2 lbs. The needle is big though! Usually they are very brave and won't even give a fuss at all, but it depends on your baby :) |
Our vet does it during spay/neuter. I would be concerned waiting another month or so, but we've not taken our 16 week old pup outside yet. Too cold- we're doing puppy pads. If you were going to have your pup out and about at all, I'd have it done now. If not, I'd wait until you got him/her "fixed" (if you're doing that) because the other posters are right- the needle is BIG! And these are such small dogs. |
