How traumatic for her and you. Hope she feels better soon. Hugs |
Ouch!!! XOXO for U and Sugar. I am thinking about taking Holly in to surgery but I will ask my vet how he does it first I do not want to go trough that. OMG I feel so bad for U both. Hope she gets better. |
I want to just repeat what every one else here has said...I'm so sorry your little one had to experience that!:( However...my first thoughts when I saw the photo of the raw area was an "allergic reaction" to the adhesive on the tape used to secure the bandage. That is exactly what that looks like on a human patient who comes in contact with an allergic agent in the "tape". So, before jumping to conclusions about the Vet's skills...it IS possible that this is something that your Yorkie just happens to be allergic to. I would definitely make sure this is known to any future Vet's you may go to and make sure it's documented in the medical records to prevent this from occurring again especially after any future surgeries. Again...to me, it looks like a severe allergic reaction to the "tape". |
terrible I would have been livid. Nobody and I mean "NOBODY" hurts my dog. That is completely uncalled for and I would find another vet immediately. Even if they apply that kind of tape (which they should not have done), they should be able to get it off without hurting the animal. There are safe solvents that will remove the glue and release the hair. |
I understand people being alarmed at what your babies belly looked like but, believe me if this is an "ALLERGIC" reaction to an adhesive bandage...it's nobodies fault. Let's even say...for instance her dog went in for any other reason and needed a bandage even to hold an iv in place...this still could still have happened. All I'm saying is even tho' most spay & neuters do not require a bandage and one was applied in this case...it is more than likely a reaction to the sticky adhesive on the back of the tape. If you google images of allergic reactions to adhesive bandages...you'll see what I'm talking of. This happens to humans all the time and I know this from personal experience...;)-;) |
I would never think of getting Ella spayed, unless it was for a health reason but that just seems totally wrong what they did to your poor little girl. It doesn't seem that a vet w/ their knowledge would do something that was going to rip her skin off. Geez. I am sorry that this happened. I do agree that you should get a new vet. |
It is possible that it could have been an allergic reaction, but I see that happening on people with very sensitive skin. Thin skin can rip of with the adhesive and trust me a yorkies belly looks very sensitive to me. They might just be used to bigger dogs that don't have that problem. If there are any types of blisters then I would go with the allergy part but that looked like rip skin to me. I think the sensible thing to use as a dressing would be dermabond, if not reg 4+4's with paper tape or any other bandage for sensible skin will have done it. |

By anyway, I think the vet/vet tech should have at least use some lotion/alcohol/anything to help removing the adhesive tape, I don't know..I'm not a doctor, I don't know if it's Ok to remove adhesive tape using lotion on sensitive skin :( |
I would love to say THANK YOU all very very much for all the kind words, concerns... :) Sugar and I are touched, YT is the bestest forum ever! |
Hugs and kisses to your poor sweet girl, I hope she feels better. I also think an allergic reaction I get similar symptoms from the adhesive on bandages. |

Updates I just took this photo, I'm very surprised Sugar's healing pretty fast! I guess the antiseptic helps a lot.. Thank you for all the concerns for once again :) And I would like to thank Mom to Hot Rod for offering a soft collar for Sugar's future surgery usage (Sugar has hernia...I really hope there's no 2nd surgery needed), Thank you! Sugar and I are very happy to know all of you :) |

A friend of mine has a similar reaction after a breast biopsy and you can just imagine how painful to have this kind of damage to such tender tissue under a breast...definitely made for an awful time of healing and trying to keep that area dry & aired out. |
oh your poor baby. thank you for posting this. it's helpful for me because i'm thinking of getting my baby spayed as well. your post will help prevent other yorkies from suffering anything similar. i would have cried as well, sigh - this hurts me just looking at the pictures! |
so glad she is doing much better! |

Update of Sugar 1 Attachment(s) I snapped this pic today, the little "black dots" are actually dried blood. I'm thinking to give her a bath today or tomorrow...she didn't shower for more than 14 days, but right now I'm thinking if it's OK to give her a shower now... |
big cut I used to work in a recovery room after the pets would come out of surgery and I have NEVER seen a cut that long usually its only a TINY little line for a spay maybe 3 stitches to close. am i the only one seeing this? |
I'm just now seeing this. I am so sorry your little one had to go through this. It's good to hear (and see) that she is doing much better. |
Poor baby! I am so happy to read she is doing better. I know are are relieved and feeling better too! |
