Bronze streak on back My Yorkie is 2 years and 9 months. Just recently (within the last month) I've noticed that a section of his fur has changed colors. He now has a bronze streak (about 3 inches long) on his lower back, just right above the tail. It seems to almost appeared over night. What could this be? I would assume this sort of thing from a backyard Yorkie not an AKC with champion lines... |
Many things can cause hair color change. Thyroid imbalances, skin wounds, including vaccines, sun damage, the dog itself if he is biting or scratching the area. Most changes are temporary, but it could take a few months for the hair color to restore itself. Happens to well bred dogs too! Might want to have your vet give him/her a good going over and maybe do some bloodwork just to rule out anything going on medically. :D |

Thank you both for your input...after reading the article I am very worried. Jack has also developed 3 bumps on his skin (back area) one of which the vet said was a small cyst but felt that there was no need to remove it unless it increased in size. This was about 6 months ago and it has increased slightly. I will defiantly be making another vet visit this week. |

@ Dwerten, I understand that Jack's unusual bumps would be a "pre-existing symptom. I am looking into getting health insurance for Jack but noticed that the main insurance company's such as (Banfield offered through Petsmart and Trupanion offered through PetCo) do not offer coverage on pre-existing conditions. I actually didn't see anything about coverage for pre-existing conditions on the Banfield site. Do you have any suggestions for pet insurance? |
Ah so it won't let me edit my response. After reading my post I realized that my last sentence may not have made sense. What I meant to ask was...Do you have any suggestions for finding an insurance company that will cover pre-existing conditions? |

unfortunately no company covers pre-existing conditions.... that way they would be out of business i think, lol. I am sorry your doggie is sick.. I don't have any advice im sorry..but im sending positive vibes your way! In regards to pet insurance...I think it's extremely beneficial to have. I've been able to save money on all the vet bills we've had for the past year with it. I have Trupanion pet insurance and they've been great, affordable, and cover 90% of our vet bills, meds, and sugeries. Worth checking them out at least. ww.trupanionpetinsurnace.com :) |
Thank you all for such wonderful advice! It's nice to know that I can come on here to speak with fellow Yorkie owners when in doubt :-) Thanks again :) |
