Questions: After Neutering I was wondering if a dog will continue to lift his hind leg at the side after they have been neutered~? Will they also still hump their cushion too~? I am experiencing this with my Yorkie. What changes will I see, or is there~? Thanks. |
No:) Neutering will not change your dog in very many ways...He might get a little more lazy but he will help to remove his drive to find females...other than that I have never seen it change their personality or their terrier ways. |
I have seen changes in a neighbor's dog (Shiz Tsu) when he got neutered. He wasn't playful at all anymore when he saw my Yorkie. Stupid question, but does the dog know something was done~? He has started looking down there and began to lick, so I had to put on his e-collar again. He's not happy with it. He can't run or jump for 2 weeks, as the Vet said since he needs to heal up down there. That is difficult on both of us :( |

My male was neutered around 5 months and continued squatting until he was a year old. Then he started lifting his leg, only to pee though, not to mark. None of my males personalities changed after neutering, they remained as sweet and loving as prior to the neuter |

Keeping the dog relatively quiet for 2 weeks is a tough job. I tried to keep life as normal as possible for Maximo by doing things like carrying him the same 1-mile path we walk every morning. People laughed, but I didn't care. Maximo continues to lift his leg, which doesn't bother me. He humps occasionally (more like an Elvis Presley hip gyration thing :p). Both behaviors are individual to each dog; some do and some don't. |
Bandit still lifts his leg, I think he did it more after neutering (never any marking though...except once in PetSmart:confused:) He still humps too, except the only toy he would hump after neutering was the duck, before surgery he'd be more apt to hump other things too but not many. |
He has to have some activity, so I have been walking him. Not long distances like we usually do (1-3 hrs(, but like 20-30 mins. I have tried to play with him inside some, but he get overworked with a ball or certain toys. I just found a bruise and called the Vet. He's okay otherwise. Just a worried momma here :) |

Try carrying him while you walk. Smell is a dog's most powerful sense, so just being outside and sniffing the air while you do the walking is great stimulation. I understand being worried. My vet's office crowned me "most emotional doggy momma" when I had Maximo neutered. I completely humiliated myself when I dropped him off and when I picked him up. They wanted to sedate me. :p |
When I called the Vet earlier tonight and asked about his bruising, I thought it may of been from the surgery or from him lifing his hind leg. I probably needed some sedation when he had surgery, because I had so very much energy I went into "cleaning -mode". I got a lot done. The Vet was suppose to call me and I panic that no one did, so I called. That put me out of order for being called totally, which I didn't know. I called like 3 times that day, and twice the next morning. I worried all day long and I was a mess and drained from all that cleaning. |
