Heartworm Preventative - which brand? I was wondering what brand of Heartworm Preventative used for your yorkie? Any recommendations or experiences? I'm not sure whether to use Heartguard or Sentinel. I don't think I can afford Sentinel, but I don't want to use a lesser quality - but if the cheaper one is just as effective I'll use that. Any brands that not too expensive but really effective? |
I use Interceptor. It's very affordable. I have looked at alot of other heartworm preventatives and Interceptor prevents a good amount of worms besides just heartworms. It's about 5 dollars a pill and 25 for a 6 month supply, that is at my vet. Ella really likes taking it too b/c it's small and meat flavored. =] |
I like Interceptor! It comes in a lower 0-10lb dosage which I am much more comfortable with for our little ones. |

Thanks!!! This will save me so much $$$$. |
Interceptor. Just gave their monthly dose. :) Pam |
I like Interceptor because it comes in a lower 0-10lb dosage for our small pups :thumbup: |
I use Interceptor :). |
Interceptor here too for both my dogs, it seems to be the easiest on their stomaches. |
I use Iverheart Plus. Basically it's a generic brand of Heartguard. |
we do not have to use it in california but have read interceptor is best for toy breeds |
We use Interceptor here. Sentinel is Interceptor, but with an added chitin inhibitor to stop fleas from reproducing. So if flea protection isn't needed, then Interceptor would be the best choice, not Sentinel. Heartgard is also a great product though. Heartgard protects against heartworms and Heartgard Plus protects against heartworms and some intestinal parasites. It does look like Heartgard is a large overdose for Yorkies (smallest dose up to 25 pounds), biut Interceptor could also be considered an overdose. Just 1/5 of the Interceptor tab would be sufficient for heartworms (safeheart dose); the other 4/5 is to control intestinal parasites. So both are overdoses... Interceptor seems to work very well for small breeds and it is my first choice; however, Heartgard is still a good choice... |
