microchip company I am going to microchip the puppy. Since I've never done this before, can you please give me some advice on which company to use??? I don't know why there's so many :( |

Make sure it's universal. If I'm not mistaken it should have ISO written somewere. Some require certain scanners while a few can be scan with any scanners. I called my vet and checked which brand she uses and I then called shelters to see which ones they use. Then read and do your research which one you think is more convenient for you and your furbutt. Good luck!! |

Some companies charge a yearly fee, and I would choose a company with a lifetime fee. I chose Home Again, that's what the vet used, and it's a one-time fee of $30.00. Home again will provide free scanners to vets, and other places, and this means that their scanners are easily available. |

i to was worried about microchipping because my vet only has one brand of microchip and they are the only one who can read it so if my vet wont do it where can i go to have him chiped |

 Alway's ask what brand and read/compare. |

maddie has a chip, and my vet has a universal reader that picks up the 3 most common chips, however it wont read maddies, and i have no way of getting the i.d # off it to have it put in my name. :( |

Who put the chip in? They should have giving you some paper work with the number. Do you know what brand; maybe you could contact the company and find a place where the chip could be read. I would think the Humane Society would have something to read it, otherwise it seems kind of worthless. |

she is a rescue, and where i adopted her had no info, and didnt even know she was chipped. humane society here cant even read it |

Tell me about it! my biggest fear would be she got lost and returned to the wrong person, however if the HS and vets here cant read it then i dont have to worry about that, and she does have I.d tags with my name and # |

I'm not sure what my vet uses, I'll have to check. I was told our humane society here uses a universal chip that most any scanner can read and it's a one time fee of $20.00. Does that sound right? We do have a good shelter here locally. Would you allow them chip your dogs? |

I don't believe in a monthly fee, as far as I'm concern there's no GPS chip to pay a monthly fee. That fee is for them to give you a courteous call that they found your dog instead of the person who scan them. |

Thanks for the info/advice and thanks to the OP for posting this topic:) |

Max is chipped with Avid. He was chipped by the rescue group where I adopted him. I have the certificate and the #, so I was able to change the information to my name. |
