lilly doesn't have dermadex Lilly's scrapings came back neg. So the vet believes she has allergies to food or enviroment. they put her on prednisolone. also she has bactira in fection in her ears and gave her trizedta with baytril for that. Her skin is dry, does anyone have a knowledge of a good but inexpensive shampoo and conditioner. |
You said that she has allergies to her food or environment. I personally would start there, before changing shampoos or conditioners. What is it that you are currently feeding her? Certain grains in their diet can have adverse effects on them causing allergies. Thank goodness that her scrape came back clean |
Lilly Lilly eats ekanuba canned puppy chicken and rice and has since her hypoglycemica episode she also has science small bites puppy. The shampoo isn't for her allergies but for her dry skin |
Look at the top 5 ingredients in Eukanuba. If you see more grains than meat, than that could be the issue at hand that is causing her dry skin and allergies. As for the shampoo, it will not help her dry skin. You need to treat the inside health in order to correct what is going on with her skin. The dryness is most commonly a symptom of another larger issue going on; such as the allergies. Shampoo and conditioner will treat her hair but not the skin. There is a sticky posted at the top of this forum about food ratings. I personally would start there, choosing a higher quality food. One with human grade components and with essential oils that will help with her coat. Hope this helps... |
lilly The eukanuba first five ingredients are all chicken or beef. What would be a good shampoo that will keep her hair softer and cleaner looking. The only time she is outside is on a leash at potty time. She's not allowed out without the leash as that mt first yorkie over 5 years ago was killed in my yard by a rottilwiller(sp) and then a friend had their 4-5lb pomerainan swooped up by a owl. So needless to say Lilly is watched over carefully. |
Mink Sheen is a good shampoo, also Essence has a hypoallergenic coconut shampoo which is also very good. I buy them from a YT member "AMD". I would definitely hold off until her ears have cleared up though as the shampooing may exacerbate the infection. Also, I do not mean to sound curt, but Eukanuba is comprised of a lot of by-products and meal. I do not know if you have read about what these two truly are, but you might want to know. Some may not agree with me, but I personally, would not feed my pups that. Here are some links that can give you an overview of the Pet Food industry. Hope this helps. What's really in Pet Food Horrors of Pet Food |

many allergic dogs cannot eat chicken or beef - try natural balance venison and sweet potato for 12 weeks - NO TREATS NOTHING BUT FOOD and use food as her treats so you can rule out food allergy especially since ears are involved i would rule out food allergy first |
