non-stop licking her foot! Truffles licks her back foot what seems like non-stop! It drives me crazy! I think it is becoming a habit cause she does it so much. Vixxen does it somewhat too, only one foot as well, but not nearly as bad. I have inspected all the little feeties and see nothing...anyone have this issue and what can I do? I was thinking I'd wrap that foot and see if I could break the habit? I also saw something on the internet...little sockies and some kind of medication or ointment? I need to look further into that one.... |
It's kind of like thumbsucking in small children. Something to make them feel comfortable. My moms dachshund used to so it so she started pinching his butt everytime he did it, and he hasn't done it anymore since. (he hates the butt pinch) we always pick on him with it. But he always comes back for more. I have also heard of people putting something nasty on the foot when they start to do it and they stop as well. Best of luck! |
It may not be just a comforting habit. There could be underlying medical reason for this behavior. Licking the feet can be sign of allergies. Maddie did this as a reaction to her first adult food. How long has she been doing this? What is her diet? have you switched foods lately? |
Could it be a food allergy? That is what my dog did before I found out some things he was allergic too. It was only the back feet, not the front. |
Advice It may be food allergy that is compelling your puppy to licking.I agreed it could be underlying medical reason for this behavior.Licking the feet can be sign of allergies. |
Snickers used to lick and bite his hind feet all the time when I had him on Nutro (GROSS!) when we 1st got him and still did it when we transitioned to Merrick's Puppy Plate. Finally, after he was about 6 months old, we went to a grainfree food (Evo) and he stopped. He will still do it from time to time when we give him Cheerios for potty treats over a week...it's crazy how he reacts to grains. Each dog is different so it could be a food allergy for your pup, a medical reason, or it maybe comforting to your pup to lick. I am also curious as to what your dog's diet is. Smiles- Snick & Viv |
That's a major indicator of food allergy. What food are you feeding them? It seems odd though if both dogs are doing it though. |
I don't think its from her food, because she is very limited as it is. She suffers from pancreatitis and for the most part, eats boiled chicken! Her dry food has been a special digestive low fat food too. I kind of think it has turned into a habit more than anything else and I need to distract her from doing it! |
Some dogs are allergic to chicken... |
