How to diagnose Luxating Patella? I have an appointment for Mya on Friday morning but of course my worry is getting the best of me. I feel a pop in her left knee sometimes when I pick her up or am holding her (both when the knee is bent)...I have no way of telling if it happens when she walks. I did the bicycle movement that I saw the vet do and it didn't replicate it...I can only replicate it SOMETIMES when I am holding her with her knee bent and kind of flip the hip outward...not really extending the leg...isn't it supposed to pop when the leg is extended if it is LP? It happens infrequently...so if she has it I would assume it is a very low grade... A couple of months ago I felt a pop too and took her in to the vet and they couldn't replicate it...I am hoping this is the same thing! Does anyone know how to tell if it is LP? Or just a tendon/cartilage? |
i would not stress about it unless it is popping out causing her pain and causing her to lift the leg at all time that is when you need to be more concerned and surgery but i would not do surgery unless my dog was in constant pain and lifting leg at all times. Otherwise just keep an eye on her and if you see it popping out alot then you can put her on cosequin as many have great success with that supplement |
Thanks for the reply! I know I probably jumped the gun with worry but having gone through 2 surgeries on one of her hips about a year ago I don't want to waste any time and take any chances!! Anxious for her appointment on Friday morning to ease or confirm my worry aaargh |
