Food recommendations I am a new puppy owner....Ive owned dogs all my life but never a Yorkie.. I have a question on dry food.. Scotty is a male 10 week old who has been on dry Eukanuba supplemented with alpo wet by the breader i purchased him from.. I plan on either keeping him on the Eukanuba or slowly substituting something else... Any recommendations out there..Ive used Dick van Pattens food before for cats but never tried it with puppies.. Also, any of you out there wean your puppies off wet food entirely... These probably seem like dumb questions but i want to get off to a good start nutritionally speaking.. |
I would recommend Merrick's. I have used the Puppy plate, Pot Pie and Turducken. Sophie loves it and it has been rated very well. Gook luck! |
Congratulations on your new puppy. Here is a link http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html read through it and request samples. You will find that your puppy will not like all of the different samples, so choose a few that the puppy likes and you will have a healthy puppy with a variety of food choices. |
Mine are on Wellness and love it. They also like Nature's Variety, but I can't get it locally so have to order it. I think if you find a dry food that he likes then you would not have to use the canned food. But if you do have to continue with the can food, I would change to a differnet brand that is a better quality the Alpo. |
Welcome!! There is much hoopla on kibble and what is good and not good. There are only a few brands that I 100% trust and would feed my Snickers. Those brands include: -Acana -Orijen -Innova -Innova Evo -California Natural -Fromm -Nature's Logic Good luck to you!! A great site many of us use (and others oppose) is Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble Smiles- Snick & Viv |
I have Jasmine and Prissy on Natural Balance. They are doing well and they love it. Have a Great day! |
I just switched Sophie from Eukanuba to Wellness and she really likes it. I dropped the Eukanuba because it contains Ethoxyquin, a quinoline-based antioxidant used as a food preservative and a pesticide. I never used a wet food for Sophie. She likes her kibble. |
I have a 12 week old babygirl, Miss Ivy, and the breeder sent us home with a bag of Eukanuba. I had read article after article about the best food for Yorkies before we got Ivy, since we lost our first dog, a Yorkie-poo, to diabetes. We basically fed Daisy national-brand foods and treats, and I am positive her health suffered because of it; I didn't want to make that same mistake with Ivy. I decided to switch Ivy to Royal Canin Babydog once we brought her home, because everything I had read pointed to their foods being top-quality. Well, the day we brought her home, I put a few of the kibbles in her bowl along with the Eukanuba; she picked out the Royal Canin and left the other food sitting! She wouldn't touch the Eukanuba no matter what we did to tempt her to eat, and I worried about her developing hypoglycemia (as she was only 8 wks) so I ended up giving her more of the RC that evening. She hasn't looked back since! She LOVES the RC and will even eat it over the all-natural liver training treats and peanut butter crunchy treats! And the best part - she doesn't have "puppy breath" that goes along with national-brand foods. I definitely recommend Royal Canin dry kibble (and so does Ivy!). |
both my dogs are on wellness. Pixie is 5.5 months and is on wellness super5 just for puppy and Daisy is almost 6 yrs old and is on the weight reduction bc she is a lil chubbpy from sneaking puppy food:rolleyes: |
I feed Life's Abundance and one thing I think is great about Life's Abundance is that it is for all life stages so you can feed it to your furbaby when he is young all the way thru his/her life so you dont have to worry about changing food and upsetting their stomach! ;) |
Welcome and congrats on your new puppy! :D There's so much to choose from when it comes to food, but this website might help you out. Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost. I feed a rotation diet (kibble) of EVO, Nature's Variety Instinct, Horizon Legacy, Wellness CORE. |
