my yorkie has chronic stomach problems Hello/I'm hoping that somebody out there has found out some miraculous way to cure our yorkies that have constant digestive problems/I've tried infant antigas drops/recently a vet precribed promax the good stomach bacteria in high amounts for 5 day intervals, some natural sukpplement from India for appetite, digestion, and gasiness/she was good about a month and then she gets the foamy vomit ,doesn't eat for a day and a half and then eats again/like a viscious circle that keeps repeating itself...it's very disheartening and I'm constantly worrying about her instead of just being able to enjoy her w/ good health/\i wish somebody had the answer/\i usua:animal36lly feed her fresh boiled chicken...sometimes chef michael's small canned food |
you may want to move this to the sick and injured section to get more info sounds like ibd :( if this is an ongoing thing and chicken could be your issue as ibd is a food intolerance and some ibd dogs cannot tolerate chicken it inflames intestines and then they vomit :( read this Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in Dogs it usually will not show up on blood work and if it does it shows up in form of high lipase, amylase, and high cpli as it mirrors pancreatitis with not all the symptoms of pancreatitis :( my dog has this - so google inflammatory foods - make sure no white potato or inflammatory foods in diet. They do better on grains I believe |
I'm rather new here and our Yorkie is our first. I know someone will have good advice for you. Hope so anyway. Will be watching your thread. |
my dog is on purina ha for this - it is a hydrolized diet and he has ibd in small intestines and sounds like yours does too as yours is vomitting and not having diarrhea - the bad thing about small intestines is it is easier to trigger pancreas with that one and this breed is prone to pancreatitis and small intestines is right next to pancreas so when it gets back up it can trigger pancreas. Your dog is not eating because it knows it will make them sick as they are very instinctive and it is good to rest tummy - ibd dogs do best eating 3-4 small meals a day so spacing out helps with digestion some other good foods are ultra z/d while it has chicken in it it is hydrolized. You can try natural balance venison and sweet potato or fish and sweet potato as sweet potato is not inflammatory where as white potato is if this is persisitent and you cannot find the right diet to work you can do tylosin (tylan powder) Tylosin but i would try probiotics prior to long term antibiotics. This is a mild antibiotic that can be used for the rest of your dogs life but obviously getting a good diet is best rather than any meds or supplementation |
does your dog ever vomit up food? The white foamy vomit is empty stomach after bile is all vomitted up |
