Red itchy eye This morning I noticed one of Layla's eyes was very red around the outside, and when I looked a little closer at her eye, the white on the inside of the eye is completely red, yet still white around the outside. She is scratching it a lot which explains the redness around her eyelid. I just put a cold cloth over her eye to soothe it, but she's still scratching. About 3 years ago I came home from work to her with blood covering her head... she scratched her eyes so hard that she made herself bleed! After rushing her to the vet, I found out it was some sort of environmental allergy that made her eyes itchy. She got put on a week or so of antihistamines and she was completely better and we haven't had an issue since. I never found out what it may have been since I didn't change anything before or after. This time I'm not sure if it might be the same thing. But why would it only be in one eye? Is there anything else I can do to make her feel better? |
i would take to vet for ointment and have eyes checked - eyes are nothing to mess with do you have a cone as i would put that on to keep her from itching it and making it worse until you get to the vet. my girl has allergies and has been scratching at her eye so i immediately put the cone on to protect the eye |
you may want to call er vet and ask about benedryl as well to help - when itching the more they itch like a mosquito bite when we itch it - it gets worse so you can try to keep from itching it will calm down a bit and that is why i do the cone as well to stop the cycle of itching |
Thanks! I don't have a cone, but she finally just laid down to have a rest... I'm hoping she'll sleep for a bit and forget about the itch. If it's still there when she gets up I will try calling the vet. |
