Aggression after Spay My Moka was spayed on Tuesday. Thursday she started showing aggression towards my baby Mylee, and today the aggression is escalating. It is not just a growl but a full blown aggressive stance, growl and charge, and she shivers in anger. Before the spay the two were buds and slept on blankets curled up together. Mylee is obviously confused by this new behavior and does not understand and that alone is making it worse because she is curious about it, so I have now separated them. Is this horomonal and will it pass? I do not know how to handle Moka when she is being this way because I really think she may bite anybody who tries to approach her when she is acting like this. It is that serious! I know she is not feeling well yet, and I do not expect her to be back to normal by any means yet. She was always very very submissive before her surgery so I too am confused by this. Any advice is welcome. |
oh sad! could it be that her incision hurts, and your little one hurt her when you turned your back for a second? I don't have a female, so I haven't dealt with a spay, but I guess that could be a reason... I'm getting my boys fixed at some point here in the next 6 months, and I'm hoping we won't have any issues like that. I don't have children yet, but I hope there's no agression towards anyone after...Good luck! |
Probably pain and the sedation and meds take a while to wear off.Seriouslyit is more than one day!Like you would think it would be. It can make them act really weird for days.I am sure she will be her normal self in the next week or so.Best of luck.Hope you baby girl is feeling herself soon. |
Thank you for the replies. After I made the post I wondered if this could be a reaction from pain. She has been remarkably bright eyed and perky, but I realized that this behavior I have been noticing is in the evenings and I have been giving her pain meds in the morning. I will limit their exposure to one another for the next few days. I don't want her to develop a habit for this behavior. |
I would tend to think that it is from the pain of the surgery. You may want to keep them separated until Moka feels a bit better. Can you give her her pain meds in the evening as well? Hope that Moka feels better soon. Hugs. |
oh girl, I just saw your post, sorry to hear, and yes it could be that she is in pain, I remember my little angel Prada turning into the yorkie from He*l when she was in pain, they gave her a shot before she came home on spay day and a bottle with rimadyl well I hate pain killers so i did not give her her night one and she almost bit Harry boy's head,:eek: so I called my son and asked, he said she was in pain to give her the pills and as soon as the pain was gone she was back to be my little angel. sorry you had to go thru this too, I guess it comes with the territory. hugs, Carmen in nj |
I hope it gets better for you. I had my shih tzu neutered a few years ago and he turned agressive after. It has never stopped. I am to the point I would like to rehome him but know that nobody will put up with an agressive dog. I don't want him to end up in the pound so I put up with him. |
I'm sorry I have no idea about this... I got my furbaby spayed on Thursday, she didn't change at all, just like her old-self. I guess your furbaby might be feeling uncomfortable that's why she turns out to be an aggressive one? |
I saw it's been said - but my 1st thought was she's in pain....from what I know - when dogs shake and show agression - it's normally due to something that hurts.... Hope she feels better today ! |
Thank you all! You are so informative and helpful. After reading your replies I too think it is out of pain. The vet perscribed metacam for once daily so I think it is wearing off by evening. She has two more days of metacam left. |
