Moka had Pyometra Moka went in for her yearly exam and spay today. The vet called me this morning to tell me they had her opened up and wanted to know if I knew she was pregnant. I said IMPOSSIBLE and told them there had to be something else. He told me they had heard that a time or two, but I assured him. I told him she hadn't even been in heat much less ever bred or pregnant and she has not been out of my site for the last two months because i have a new puppy (for 2 months now) that I go out with them on every potty break and we have a 6' privacy fence. Nothing comes in or out! He said apparently something happened and wanted to know if I wanted them to continue with the spay and I said absolutely! He then called me back an hour later to tell me that she was NOT pregnant, and that they opened up the uterus and found the infection, not puppies. (I know they really wanted to prove me wrong, but I knew she could not possibly be pregnant!!) The spay literally could have saved her life or at the very least several hundred dollars in treatment. Last week or so, I had posted that she was itching terribly and attributed that to the food change but she was still slightly depressed and not quite herself so I was anxious for this appointment today. They told me she should be fine and I can pick her up today at 4:30. It will be nice to have my old dog back! Oh, and I know because some of you will ask, she will be 3 years old this spring. I had once considered breeding her but she never matured into my standard of breeding quality. So it was planned to have her spayed at this visit regardless. My vet thinks that she went through a mild or silent heat which lead to the introduction of infection, but she would not have been bred anyways, so please don't lecture me on breeding or spaying. |
Glad to hear she will recover! :) |
Oh, I am so glad you you took her in to be spayed before the infection got more serious. She could have died! |
I pray your girl will have a complete recovery. |
OMG,cha cha, that is plain scary, glad that she is well and it was found in time... wishing her a speedy recovery.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
