bully sticks Just wondering where some of you purchase your bully sticks from? Sometimes when I buy them they go crazy over them and sometimes they just leave them lay. Is it that some are made differently or does it just depend on the bull? I hate buying them and then they don't enjoy them they do get a little expensive. Oh well they are worth it. |
I got mine here; they don't really have a smell like most of the other brands do. Believe me than can be really stinky! http://www.westbrookdog.com |
I get mine from Petsmart becasue the one by my house has a bunch to chose from and they all come in differtn sizes. I normally just buy the smallest one and if sophie likes it then i order the bigger size becasue like yours she is very picky when it comes to her treats. |
I've ordered from Westbrook as well and Bella loves them. She doesn't get as many as she used to as she's started swallowing them whole. :2omg: I plan on getting one of those kongs that they can fit through to hold them so she can't do this anymore. But until then, no more bullies. |
Westbrook here too... |
I think they are all made from the a bull's penis (called beef tendon), but the real difference is how they are dried. The drier the stick the harder it is, and it becomes more like a bone, and less like beef jerky or a treat. I guess it depends on why you want to give them the stick, if it's just for a snack, then it wouldn't make any difference what type you bought, but if you are looking for something that helps scrape teeth of tartar then the harder sticks are important. If your dog is chewing a stick in a day, I think you are buying a soft stick. I have only tried Merrick Bully sticks, but I'm really happy with the quality. It takes a whole week for Joey to chew one, and we toss it when stick is about 1 1/2 inches, so it works out to about one a week. Joey does intensive chewing on the stick every night for at least two hours that I know of; he makes his daddy or me hold it for him! Yorkies are prone to tartar and many need their teeth removed starting at the age of three because of tartar, so anything you can do to reduce tartar is great! |
We order from Westbrook as well. They are great and they don't smell! |
We've ordered Bully Sticks from Westbrook as well. They didn't have a strong odor to them like most of the previous Bullys I've bought did. |
They do come in different types. But I don't like the bad breath smell. I am looking for the ones that don't smell. His main purpose of loving them is the way they chew. And I like that because they aren't harmful for him. Anyone know where I can get these? I will check out the Westbrook site. Thanks too to these responses. |

Bully sticks I asked Petsmart why they have been out of bully sticks for so long, they said they were recalled because of samonella (I believe). They still do not have them in. I also checked the website above and they appear to be "out" of all of the bully sticks. I wonder if they are part of the same recall. I know my little guys are going through withdrawl because they haven't had them since before Christmas. Amberly Lilli (11yr), Toby (11 yr) Paddy(Biewer, 2 yr), Gizmo (1 yr) |

This is another reason to make sure you buy a brand that has been properly dried. If dried properly bully sticks do not need an artificial preservative, the drying acts as a preservative. I'm not convinced some imported brands are as careful in the drying process. |

Petsmart sells the brand RedBarn bullies. I wonder if that is the only brand in the recall? Scary I just about went today to buy some. I like the westbrook bully sticks because they do not smell. However, Zeus can go through one in a day in a half. Must be softer than the others. |
