How can I get my man to poop? Maybe I'm being overly concerned here, but I just KNOW Baxter has a poo on deck and he won't drop it...and it's past all of our bedtimes. He usually goes once in the morning and once at night, but yesterday he didn't go until 3pm and then nothing at night. This morning he did a little marble of poo, but nothing substantial. He's been eating fairly normally, so...I just wish he'd go so we could all go to bed! Any suggestions? Are there any massage techniques or foods I should try? He's not acting like he's uncomfortable or strange, so I'm not concerned that he's constipated or anything - though if he doesn't lay a couple of large logs by tomorrow afternoon I'm going to call the vet. |
go to whole foods and get some canned organic pumpkin and give him a little it - it is a natural fiber food so it will work for diarrhea or constipation |
Thanks! I think he could tell I was stressing out about it because he plopped down a HUGE 'un just now! Thank goodness! But for next time - I'll try the pumpkin. Is there anything I should be giving him regularly to keep him on schedule? He eats Royal Canin Puppy 33, so he's got good quality food...but I'm wishing his schedule were a little more predictable so I can keep better track of him. ...I never thought I'd be so emotionally invested in puppy turds. This is true love. The other day I took cell phone pictures of his poo to show the vet and didn't even realize how weird that was until I told my non-dog-owning friend about it. |
Green beans work well too. |
Take him for a walk:). Walking naturally stimulates pups to go #2. Works like a charm with our Snickers. If it's really late, just stay near your house. Good luck:) Snick & Viv ps...Pumpkin is great for constipation. Btw, this will happen alot, dogs are always on/off schedule. If you have a schedule for walking Baxter, he will start pooping during those walks. |

WOW!! and I thought I was the only one...LOL... I'm always walking over to Harley's "area" and looking at her poop. I wouldn't say everyday, but several times throughout the week just to make sure all's normal :p Fortunately she's goes potty on command so I rarely have to wait for any length of time. I agree that walking will bring on the poop. However, I don't allow Harley to stop and use the bathroom on her walks. She's given the option to potty beforehand, and if she doesn't need too, then as soon as we get back to the yard, she goes. I know that some people pick up after their dogs, but in my neighborhood, NO ONE does and it drives me crazy...I can't tell you how many times I've seen owners allowing their dogs to go in MY yard and then walk off. So, we just don't do that. Although there's been times when I feel like letting her walk up to those neighbor's doorstep and dropping a load :D But I would never.... we're too classy for that :aimeeyork |
