Black Spots on belly Hi, Derby has these black spots on his belly. I looked at other threads regarding this on this board and it talks about itching/black spots in arm pits etc. I do not have that on Derby. They are on his belly and near his genital area. We tried squeezing one because we thought maybe it was a blackhead, but all it did was scab. i took the scab off and there is still a black dot there; however there seems to be a sharp end to it. There are various sized of dots. Some are raised, and some are smaller black ones. They look the same from the naked eye, but when I feel them they do not feel the same. The one we picked at, that scabbed, and had a sharp end to it almost look like a piece of burr or a dog hair that wasn't like his belly hair at all. We had to shave him down last weekend because he chased a dog into a bush at the dog park, so maybe that's it? I tried using the tweezers to squeeze the other raised ones and nothing happens. Could they me moles or just skin pigmentation? Should I squeeze the raised one harder (like I do my own blackheads?) I don't know what to do, but it worries me a little. I've also heard of Staph infections... What are those? Could this be it? |
1 Attachment(s) Ok I know for sure it isn't Staph infection- i goggled it - it looks nothing like it I did find this picture through google images, and it resembles it... Except Derby has big and small ones- some raised/some not |
How many "spots" does he have? To be honest the picture you posted looks like nipples to me. |
They do don't they! That's what Derby's looks like! My husband said "Did you see that Derby has black spots on his belly?" and I said "Ya they are normal.. man parts" I thought they looked like a man form of tiny woman nipples, until I realised they were sporadic in where they were placed. |
Could it be teenage acne for dogs? He is 7 months old... and I just read something about that too. although it doesn't explain why one of them seemed to have a pointy end once I picked at it. Then again, his black spots look the same but some are raised/some aren't. ahh so confused!! |
Looks like nipples to me. Mickey also has a flatter one that I think of as his belly button (where the umbilical cord was attached). |
Looks like nipples to me as well. My little one is missing a nipple on one side OR has an extra nipple on one side-depending on how you want to look at it:) Also some of the nipples are black and some are pink. Maybe if you could post a picture we could have a better idea. |
Could they be nipples? We didn't notice Bandit's until he was older lol. I almost freaked out thinking they were something serious and rushed him to the vet. How un-symmetric are they? Could you get a picture? |
Let me a get a pic, and get back to you guys-- in the next few days :) If they're nipples can they be all over his belly? near genitals too? weird. |
Hi, I am taking Parker to the vet today for this very thing. I have always thought that they could be moles, but it looks like at least one of them is getting larger. This is what concerns me. |
black spots on skin are very common and usually are staph infection. My dog Barney gets a staph infection in late spring to early summer secondary to allergies - it is easily cleared by antibiotics. My dog never itches or bites his spots. I think it is good you are taking Parker in so you can get to the bottom of it quickly. |
