Female yorkie weight gain during heat hi all I have a question? My yorkie Jasmine had 2 c-sections one yr apart. It has been 6 month since her last puppy was born. we are not going to be breeding her. I notice her heat on the 11th of jan. She has not been been bred but noticed she has gained weight. She is eating and drinking water like normal. She is hiding more in her crete. I was thinking she hiding to make sure my male shihtzu leaves her alone. I don't mix breed. He has a belly band on and we watch them closely. If we can not watch them we crete him. She has been more cling to me also. Here is my question? Is this her hormones causing her to act this way. I will proabaly get her vet checked to be on safe side. Wandering if I am just paranoid also? thank you |
I'm not sure about the hormone question....but dogs also hide/isolate when they are feeling sick or in pain. I don't think you're being paranoid...I like your idea of taking her to the vet. Since you won't be breeding her again, maybe get her spayed too - to avoid accidents? I hope she is okay, keep us posted. :) |
Lethargy can be normal during heat, but I'm not so sure that she should be gaining weight... After this heat is over, it would most likely be in her best interest to go ahead and have her spayed. When a female is in heat and an unneutered male is around, accidents happen easily and belly bands are not enough to stop it. They can tie through the sides of some crates and some rip belly bands and diapers off. |
My female went into heat a week before Christmas. She wa very clingy the entire time and hated my male dachshund (neutered) She wouldn't breed this go round. However, she gained 2 pounds in her heat, eating the same and all. I dont know why they do though?? Just make sure she eats/drinks enough to survive. |
