Can her vag be "too" swollen?
 
My GoGo started her first period pretty late I think, She's about 15months now and has been spotting a little this past week. Her vagina has gotten noticeably more swollen the last couple of days, though she has done a lot of "cleaning" down there which I try to stop her from over doing it. I just put a pair of panties on her. Will the swelling go down a little if she stops licking? Is there anything else I should do?

We're not sure if we want to spay her yet, we may decide for her to have one litter before we do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and we have a male unneutered pekingese but he seems uninterested in mating with her- will this change after she's done bleeding? Should I keep them separated and for how long? :confused:

YES to question number 2!! KEEP THEM SEPARATED for at least 3 weeks or you WILL be having mixed breed puppies.

It is normal for her to swell and lick.. she is keeping herself clean.

I would keep them apart for 4 weeks. I had one to tie on day 24...better safe than sorry.

Are you wanting to breed your pekingese with her? I hope not.. :(

I hope you have researched yorkie breeding. There is alot of heartache, expense, sleepless nights. You have to be prepare to lose your girl or the litter. Make sure you have the finances that go with it.. csections and raising a litter is not cheap.

At 15 months the chance are that it's not her first heat but second. The first heat is often a silence one.

Lost of cleaning and swollen sound normal to me.

If possible at all,I won't STRONGLY recommend you to send your Pekingese to one of your friend or to a family for a few weeks. You male WILL get interested for sure soon. Your male is probably going to start PEEING all over YOUR HOUSE soon so if you don't have any you should get some belly band ASAP!

And please, don't even think about breeding your Yorkie with the Pekingese.

Not only the shelters are full of mix and mutts dogs, but the Pekingese head is to big for the yorkie female so if the puppy have a Pekingese shaped head it increase the chance a c-section enormously ( $$$) and put your bitch at danger.

:thumbup::thumbup: I hope the OP takes all this advice. This breeding would be a bad bad bad idea.

But to answer your question, yes swollen up huge is normal, lots of licking is normal. If you don't pay attention and keep the diapers on all the time, she will pee in it.
