Science Diet I/D: Has Your Dog Been On This I'm just curious if any of your dogs have ever been on this food from the Vet. How long has your dog been on it~? My Vet told me that "after 2 cans of it -3-4X day ( and slowly adding his food in it at the end), that I can go back to his regular food. I recently got some more of I/D since his belly was still bothering him (he was eating grass). Long story short, what do you all say about this I/D diet for a dog~? Just asking for your imput on this diet. I am still adding his "Blue" food in it too. |
why is your baby in science i/d diet. My baby had pancreatitis and she was put on that and she is still on it. |

I have a dog on the i/d and he has been on it for over a year. He was put on it because he has blood disorder (its fatty, dont no the tech. name) and this has helped with that. He likes it, is doing well and he looks good. He will be on it for the rest of his life. I also had my beagle and sheltie (the dog that is on it now) on it a few years ago during the food recall they got very sick, this is what the vet put them on for about week and then I slowly transitioned them over to thier new food and they did fine, but I would do it slowly, it wont take much to set off a stomach that is already upset. |
My vet told me to do exactly what your vet said. But I ended up using it a little longer too, but he was eventually back on his regular food just fine. |

If it were my dog i would go on a bland home cooked diet- white rice and boiled chicken breast until his stomach is back to normal. I would also be giving pro biotic plain yogurt to help his stomach balance back out. If your dog is having diarrhea- plain canned pumpkin (not the spiced kind that you put in pie- just plain pumpkin) will take care of that. I would do this for maybe 5-7 days and then slowly start adding his food back in. But that's just me :) |

you know some dogs truly need this kind of food.. and yeah it may not be the best out there.. BUT it works for those that need to use it.. my dog probably wouldnt be here today if it wasnt for this food because his disorder was killing him.... |

If that is what you want to use- that's fine- but I don't think it is fair to discredit another opinion that is ALSO true. |
The best food . . . is the one that works for you and your dog. |

Tatum had to eat Science Diet I/D for about a month off and on when she had a bad reaction to the new Innova formula change last summer. I think if it works for you, great. My poodle was on a couple different prescription Science Diets for about half his life and he did just fine. Science Diet may not be the "perfect food" but it's certainly not the worst. |
