Did you use an e-collar? Reesie was neutered today and has been licking at his stitches a lot. The vet acted like he didn't think that Reesie would need the e-collar. We went out and got one for him because I felt he needed one. Did you use an e-collar on your guys? |

The vet said he used dissolvable stitches. |
Either way, it's not good for them to lick the incision. It can cause an infection. Mom to Hot Rod sells a softee collar she makes that is good too. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ne-collar.html |
you can put a baby onesie on him so that he can't get to the stitches. the ones that button at the bottom. just cut out a hole for his tail. |

I think that it depends on the dog. Hot Rod had dissolvable stitches. He did kinda lick once or twice but didn't really bother his stitches. Yes, a onezie might do the trick but the please make sure that it does not rub on the incision as it can make it worse. I have a Softee Collar ready if you are interested in trying one. They are great as they are quilted. Your baby can move about freely and not worry about bumping into walls or furniture. You would not need to take the collar off as you can fold it down for that. Sleeping is not an issue either as it will be very comfortable for your little. :) Feel free to pm me with any questions. Bo |

How long should he keep the collar on? |

I don't think Gizmo and Kandi were bothered by their incision for longer than a couple of days, so three days would be good. But, like Bo said, it's different with every pup. |
It's so hard to make them wear a collar. They look so dejected don't they, but it is the best to stop him licking, and you can take if off sometimes. Good luck. Shirl x x |
Tatum didn't wear an e-collar after her spay but that's because of the type of stitches our vet used. There were really, really fine gauge wire stitches. He said that these kind of stitches discourage the licking. Worked really well for us. |
1 Attachment(s) Dunkin wore a softer cone for almost a week. Because it was flexible, it didn't seem to bother him much. He was tiny though, so sometimes it would fall off. Good luck! |
