Sudden food change My babies have been on Merrick's before grain for 3 weeks now. I switched them over gradually over a week, no issues at all. Well I had bought a couple small bags of it and I ran out yesterday. I had my fiancee go to the store to pick up some more yesterday but he went and I guess they were out of it for the last week and are waiting for a shipment. The lady told him to get "Acana small breed" so that is what he got and brought home. I don't know any other store that sells the BG so I just decided to feed them the Acana. I know Lola will probably have no issues, she eats food at everyones house, all different brands and never has the runs after. I don't know if Zach will get them but what can I do to be prepared just in case? They ate a bunch of dinner, their bowl was empty so I think I should just stay on this food for now. They both also took big poops this morning, regular bowel movement, not runny at all. |
Jackson's never had stomach issues ever before either... whenever I have switched to a new food, he typically won't eat the old and just eats new anyways (when I mix it in) so I think you'll be fine. |

Same with Lola, when Zach came here he had his food that I was mixing in with the BG, she wouldn't touch her food but ate HIS mix of food and had no issues. lol This food now though is so tiny that they think it is treats or something, they ate a few hand fulls each lol |
My dogs havent had to many issues at all either with food changes, Tucker usually eats around his old food anyways to get to the new food. I do give them yogurt so that may offset the food changes anyways.. but i dont know.. Acana is a great food. I swtiched my dogs to thier grain free line about 2 months ago and they are doing great, no more itching, doggy ordor etc. |

Which is the grain free? They are just on the regular small breed one but would love to try the grain free. My Lola gets itchy sometimes. Are the pieces just as small? My babies have pretty small mouths. |

I did want to ask you, are the pieces in Acana's Small Breed Formula small? The grainfree formula is like small disks a little bigger than a dime. Smiles- Snick & Viv |

Well my fiancee got a trail sized 1 lb bag of it and it is the puppy formula. The pieces are VERY tiny. I have never seen dog food or cat food this size. I would assume the adult would not be that much bigger. I am so amazed at how much they love this food that I was going to pick up a big bag on Wednesday because they will be finished the little one already. Of course the adult formula. They are eating it all up, they seem to be so much more playful during the day and they are pooping just fine! |

I just wanted to let you know that I picked up some Acana small bites Adult formula and they are little disks, a bit bigger then the end of a pencil. They are thin. My guys love them and had no problem eating them this morning! |
Unfortunately, the only "Acana" you can get in the US is the three grain free lines (Havest, Pacifica, and Grasslands). |

That's too bad, We get all the kinds but again I live in Canada. |
I recently switched to Acana Grasslands and notice my little one won't eat his food from his bowl as he usually did! He'll only eat them if I put the kibbles on a saucer, he'll finish his food, if he wants more, he'll look at me so I can put more kibbles on the saucer. I tried mixing Acana with his old Royal Canin last night and he'd eat from the bowl. Does anyone know why is that? When he finished the RC in the bowl, he stopped eating but would eat again if I placed the rest of Acana on the saucer. Ever since he's on Acana, he's having #2 4x a day instead of 2x when he's on Royal Canin and his poop looks normal and doesn't stink that bad like before. |
