rubbing bum on the floor? I keep catching Zoey like walking with her front paws and she drags her bottom along the floor. I have checked her to see if shes left anything behind, and shes clean and no signs of anything. She went to the vet yesterday. She said Zoey was healthy no worries, although i didnt get to go bc i had to work. My wife took her and forgot to ask. What is this from? Why would she do this only sometimes? |
I have heard oftentimes they do this when they need their anal sacs expelled. I've never had that problem with a dog yet, but I've heard this can be a symptom. If not taken care of, the sac can rupture, so you need to get it checked out if that could be the problem. Good luck! |
Mine do it after the groomer trims their butts. Maybe they took Zoey's temp and she is a little sore? Could be anal sacs too. |
Oh yeah, good point about the temp. That could be it since she was just at the vet. Maybe she'll be back to normal tomorrow or the next day :) |
sometimes they will do this because their anal sacs are full, and sometimes they do it because they have been emptied. If the vet emptied the anal gland, there is a possibility they are slightly irritated and that's why the rubbing on the floor. If they were not emptied, and no recent grooming, I'd guess they need to be emptied. I know some groomers do this, but you need to make sure they know what they are doing. If you are not, let the vet do it. |
well she had never done it till she got her hair cut. So maybe its from that? |

she was constantly doing it after her hair cut. It kinda scared me bc Id never noticed her doing that before, and I saw her do it last night just once. Its only been 5 days since her hair cut. Should I go ahead and call the vet again or give Zoey another day or two? |
Aaah if she was just groomed I bet that's it! I would personally wait it out a couple of days. She's probably fine :) |
My opinion only: I'd wait. Has she pooed today yet?:) Also, I've been known to apply hydrocortisone cream with a kleenex to their bottoms occasionally, too.:) |
Bum Rubbing After grooming and if they are trying to get their anal sacs to expel. Bella does it when she is working at expelling her sacs and a bowel movement is not enough. I've noticed she sometimes does it after she expels, too. Our vet said NOT to do it unless they could not or it creates the need to have it done. After grooming sometimes, too. You may see this behavior come and go. I was not worried after I talked to the vet. Good luck, hope this helps. |

This is true you do their anal gland once and you always have to do it afterwords. My bailey has IBS and she is on a strick diet but still gets alot of soft stool and for us it is a need to get it done. It gets expensive after a while. $40 each time @ the vet. I am to scared to do it myself and not take everything out and it will get infected. |
I think it is so hilarious when they do that! Mine do it sometimes, too. Most of the time they just have an itchy bum. Lucy had been doing it a lot lately so I mentioned it to my vet and she needed her anal sacks emptied, so it may be that :) |
I think it is just where they trimmed her. You might want to put a little vaseline on it. |
My Belle does that for a few days after I trim her down there. I know it must itch like crazy but its better than getting poop stuck  I would wait a couple days and see if it continues or if you start to smell an odor before taking her in. |
