That's it! No more shots.. I really don't like vaccines anyways, but I had to take Dora in for her last round of puppy shots, and I had Missy get her 1 year booster yesterday as well. They were both fine throughout the day yesterday, but come night time Missy started to shake and just seem uncomfortable and not quite herself. Well today, she's no better. She is shaking and doesn't want to be held. She also won't lay on any of her beds. She is laying on the floor which she NEVER does. I called my vet, she won't give her anything for pain because Missy is so small (4 lbs), she doesn't want to put anything more into her system. She didn't ask to see her today, just says if she's not better by tomorrow to bring her in. The one good thing, Missy did just eat her breakfast. Her head is up, ears are up. She just seems sad, uncomfortable and she's shaking. Dora is fine. I almost wish that I had listened to my instincts and not had her vaccinated. My girls feet do not come in contact with the outside ground anyways. Thanks for listening. I am just so worried. Missy is my heart, and I feel like crying. :( Just because I know someone will ask...this is what was in the combo shot my girls got yesterday... Parainfluenza CAV2-Hepatitis Coronavirus Parvovirus Distemper They have NEVER had a rabies shot, and never will. I am so thankful that it isn't required by law in my area. |
Sorry to hear about your baby :( I hope she is feeling better soon. Coronavirus is not a core vaccine and I have never given to my dogs. All the others yes and so far no side effects. |
Poor thing :(. So sorry Missy had such a bad reaction. Hope she feels better soon! Please keep us posted. |
Shaunna, I'm so sorry your lil Missy isn't feeling well. I know what you mean about shots - I worry every time they have to get them, but Rabies at least is required here. :( I pray Missy feels better soon, and I'm sending her lots of huggins. |
I'm sorry your baby isn't feeling well! :( I hope she's feeling better and back to her old self soon!!! Missy sends her lots of puppy kisses!:animal36 |
I'm really sorry your Missy is not doing well.....It really angers me when I see this sort of thing happening....You would think the vet would now better than to ever administer a polyvalent vaccine (combo)......These are very risky for eliciting an adverse reaction, especially for small dogs as you can see from this study........ A two-year study of vaccine reactions (from data gathered at 360 Banfield clinics in 2002 and 2003) concluded: “Young adult small-breed neutered dogs that received multiple vaccines per office visit were at greatest risk of a VAAE [Vaccine Associated Adverse Event] within 72 hours after vaccination.” The reaction rate increased significantly as body weight decreased. That is, small dogs were at greatest risk for a reaction. Risk for dogs weighing 11 pounds or less was 4 times greater than the risk for dogs weighing 99+ pounds. Medium-sized dogs also had increased risk over larger dogs. I have always been shocked that a Chihuahua puppy and an adult Great Dane are given the same dose shot: 1 mL. They get the same volume of virus or bacteria plus the same volume of adjuvants (boosting agents like aluminum), preservatives (like mercury), antibiotics, stabilizers and foreign tissue cultures (like fetal calf serum). All these ingredients are known to cause vaccine reactions. Also these combo vaccines have components that are unnecessary, when multiple viruses and/or bacterias are administered all at once they will interfere with each other, resulting in neutralization or cancellation, therefore it will have a less than desirable result. You may want to think about insisting this reaction be put in Missy's medical records it might be useful for an exemption in the future. Once a dog has a reaction the chances of another one is increased with other vaccines..... Personally my own dogs are done with vaccines. After all of the research that I have done, too many respectable researchers have proven that boosters are useless and far more damaging..... I hope Missy is feeling better soon.....:) |
Sorry your little one is sick. My pups just had their first round of shots and did great. They never acted like it bothered them at all. When I got home they where up and ready to play. They did not get Coronavirus. |

I am so sorry to hear that your little one is feeling bad today. I too am always worried when my girls have to be vaccinated. I pray that she feels better soon. |
I only let my vet. give Zekie one shot at at time, no combined shots because of all I have heard. |

On a positive note, I just picked Missy up and she's stopped shaking. I hope she's feeling better and the shakes don't come back. Thank you so much for the well wishes for her everyone. :rose: |
I hope Missy is feeling better and the shakes don't come back. How scary, I would be so worried too. I haven't gotten Fancy's 1 yr booster either and even though rabies is law where I live I haven't gotten it either. Fancy's breeder had told me she wouldn't do it because she is way too small. |
Poor missey, I hate vaccinations as well. Pixie had a reaction to the bordetella. She was sick for a week afterwards! I hope missey is feeling her playful self soon! |
