when do a yorkie puppy's ears fully go up?? cooper just turned 5 months on the 9th and it seems like his ears aren't going up yet. i like the puppy floppy ears but, i see everyone else's yorkies with their ears up and was just curious :aimeeyork:):D |
I think it depends on the puppy. Have your tried shaving the ears? I ended up taping Bentley's when he was about 13 weeks. I only left them taped for 1-2 days and they have been up ever since. :D |
My Maddie's never went up. She has always been floppy eared. I did shave hers when she was little and it didn't help. :D I LOVE her floppy ears though. |

Teething can happen at that age, so that will make the ears go up and down, trim & shave them, to help keep the cartilage strong. |

Tuffy has floppy ears. Well, mostly I should say. He does this funny thing that a lot here do also & lifts 1 or the other when we speak to him ( almost as if he knows what we say). He does raise both sometimes too but I just love him to pieces up or down! |
Tucker is almost 9 months old and has one up and one down. I tried to tape when he was younger but didn't have much success. I wished that they were both up but I love him to death no matter which way they are. |
There is a critical period of time on yorkie puppies ears where they start to stand on their own, if they are not properly taken care of in that period of time then they will not stand. Some puppies ears stand on their own with no work, but breeders who know what they are doing will shave the hair down on the top 1/3 of the ear which will allow them to stand easier without that extra weight holding them down. Some ears still need to be taped, with basic scotch tape on top of some gauze lengthwise, even after being shaved. If the ears are shaved down and not standing on their own by 3 months they should be taped for a few days on and off until they stop folding on their own. If the ears are not standing by the time the puppy is teething it will be unlikely that they do stand (this is usually around 6 months).Hope this is helpful. |
My Gabbi is 1.25 years old and her ears are still floppy. Even shaving them didn't matter. Sometimes one goes up and one stays down and it is TOO cute! We love her just the way she is. |

Pixie had 1 ear up and 1 down at 3.5 months then at 5 months they both were up and I did shave them bc it did help. Now at 5.5 that one ear is drooping but I think she is teething. I just keep her ears trimmed.:D |
Livie is 12 weeks, almost 13 and her ears just went up but I had to shave them some and tape them to help them. They didn't go up on their own. |
Bear will be five months next week, and his both ears are standing up for two weeks now. For a period of time, he has just one ear up all the time, and the other one was down. I read online that you should cut the hair from the ear to remove the weight, and tape the ear for a day or two. We did that, and in less then two days, his ear was up and standing ever since. |
