Water in Ava's ear...? I am new to this website, and I was hoping that someone could give me some advice on how to get the water out of my Yorike, Ava's ear. I called the vet to make an appointment and they said that it would drain on its own, but that was 2 days ago. Now she is scratching it and crying. I also have been cleaning it with a cotton swab every evening, but that doesn't seem like it is helping. I will most likly call the vet again tomorrow, but if anyone has any ideas on how to make it better for just the night that would be great! Ava and I would both really appreciate it :) |
Oh my, it sounds like she is pain. I am glad you are going to take her in tomorrow. Welcome to YT! I pray she has a quick recovery. |
This is my first time on this site. When my children were small and swam in lake water, I put a few drops of alcohol in their ears to displace the water and prevent bacteria from remaining in ear. I haven't done this to a dog, but you might try it. The alcohol evaporates quickly after displacing the water. |

Good advice and yes you can do it to dogs too. But, a good practice is to purchase a good pet ear cleaner with a drying agent. And welcome to YT....you might want to introduce yourself in the General Discussion section.....so we all can Welcome You |
How do you know that there is water in her ear? Did the itching and pawing start after a bath? As Mary suggested, you can use a drying agent. If the problem continues, the vet needs to see her. |

I believe it was my thread about plucking ear hair that you read. Mary (Mardelin) let me know if I am missing something but....... The Vet showed us to squirt the Vet solution ear wash right down in the ear canal and then to rub it in well. (DO NOT put the nozzle in the canal just right in front of it and you can see the stream of wash go in). Then we take a washcloth and dry the outside as well as possible. After going through the ear infections with our boy we strongly advise keeping the ears clean and dry. |

Question Mary as i have this cleaner too - how long does the bottle last as no expiration date on it and we got it in 9/2005 so have been nervous to use it lately and tried to call mfg and cannot get a hold of a number for them as nothing is on the bottle so maybe you can advise on this |

I ordered mine from "Entirely Pets" and the bottle leaked in the bubble wrap envelope. Their customer service representative was apologetic about the inadequate packaging and agreed to ship another. |
