Antibiotics after Neutering? My vet wants to give Sherman Tank antibiotics as a preventative after neutering him along with the pain meds. I am in the medical field and I am not a big fan of giving antibiotics unless absolutely neccessary. Are the antibiotics for Sherman neccesary? |
My vet only gave pain meds |
my vet gave me pain meds and anit biotics. he said because Lupo was so small, he didnt want to take any chances. |

I understand your reluctance in the antibiotics.....I've had antibiotics sent home with my girls after spay.....What I would do is ask him why? If his explanation is valid.....and based on his experience....then I would take his advice. If nothing else, bring them home with you, just in case you may need them. Now the vet will administer an antiobiotic injection. |

Sherman Tank is a bit of a big boy at 15.3 pounds : ) so I dont think it is because he is small. The vet said it was just a preventative measure. |

He said it is just a preventative measure....That is a great idea about just bringing them home...I certainly can use them if I need them and then they would be on hand instead of having to go back for another vet visit....THANKS! |
I think my Apple had a long working antibiotic, given when she had her surgery, but was not sent home w/any more...She did really well :D |
Winston was just neutered last week. They did not give him pain meds or antibiotics. They kept him overnight, and he came home the next morning & was fine. |
Bogie was neutered in August he came home with pain meds, which he didn't have to have(thank goodness) but no antibiotics. I think bringing them home with you if you do need them would be a great idea though. |
