What else do I need to know DENTAL So Milo needs his teeth cleaned. I switched Vets about a year a go and I really like them. He had is teeth cleaned at the old vet but I did not know enough at that time to ask any questions. This is what they post on there website Isoflurane is used at our clinic for inhalant anesthesia because of its safety advantages. Our surgical area is equipped with pulse and blood oxygen electronic monitoring equipment that further increases the safety of anesthesia. Blood pressure testing is also available. Our dental area is equipped with an ultrasonic dental unit to remove accumulated tartar safely and quickly. A high speed air drill expands our dental care capabilities, and an air driven polishing unit restores a smooth surface to the tooth’s enamel after dental cleaning. A fluoride treatment is performed at the end of each dental cleaning to help maintain the health of your pet’s teeth and gums. Should I be asking or requiring anything else? Thanks Cheryl |

Hi! Sounds like you have done alot of your research already. Good for you! :thumbup: Are you getting a presurgery blood work? I had mine do a CBC panel. I just had my Mia's done and we discussed using a gel sealant afterwards on a weekly basis. It's suppose to help keep the tarter down. You might ask about that. Hope all goes well! |

Sasha needs her teeth clean, she has a lot of tartar in the back teeth (the main ones they use to chew) I called the vet and its $150 for dental :eek:. |
HA...my vet told me 345-395 from what I am understanding it is due to the anesthesia that they use |
my dog had a dental cleaning and a tooth pulled. It was a little over six hundred!! Good luck. I can't think of any questions. |
Sounds like you have done a lot of good research and are ready. I do not have enough experience to offer any further advice. I do, however, hope that Zoey does not require an extensive cleaning any time soon as those prices are very high... hmmm - maybe my new insurance will cover some, I should check it out. I also started brushing her teeth as soon as we got her and I hope that will help too. Good luck and hey, post a follow-up after it is done, I would love to know how Milo did and any insights you have. |

He suggested that I start just lifting his lip for about a week until he stops squirming. Thank put my fingers around his teeth, then put something on my finger ect. Working my way up to the tooth brush. He said its training for both of us. :) |

I would not necessarily compare it exactly to like brushing a childs teeth. It sometimes seems that she is chewing on the brush like a bone but it is controlled with me holding the handle and moving it to focus on top and bottom for both sides as well as front. I will VERY gently tug foward and that allows me to get to more teeth than just the molars. She also LOVES the paste we have for her - it isn't the regular meat flavor that many use, but rather a vanilla flavor. I know, sounds odd, but she loves it. I also think the doggy brushes that have the three sides help alot too. Good luck! |
