Yorkie weight I know Yorkies differ a lot in size, but Im not sure if Hedley is an appropriate weight. He is not a tiny Yorkie by any means, but he feels quite skinny under all that hair. If you view his body from above though, his tummy appears neither big nor small. He is four and a half months old and he weighs 6lb. When I first got him he was 9 weeks and he weighed 2lb. I suppose I ought to give you an indication of his height and length, which I will do next. Does he seem an appropriate size/weight? How much more will he be likely to grow? |
Also 9 inches tall to shoulder, 12 inches long from collar to start of tail. If there is a different way to measure them please tell me. I think he is going to be one of the larger Yorkies dont you? |
If you go to this site it gives you a yorkie growth chart but it is my understanding that growth charts are notoriously unreliable. If you know the parents size it may help you determine an approximate growth. Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow |
Wow. Its sounds like he's growing pretty steadily. I don't know about his current weight but if he's eating well for you and it sounds like he's growing well based on the lb difference in thos 4 months, I would think he's doing well. Your vet would probably know best. If you looking to get an estimate on his adult size, take a look at a puppy growth chart. Here is a link to one. This is how i'm been estimated my puppy's adult size. this is just an estimate though. you can have a puppy charting out to be 5 lbs and then suddenly stop growing and you can also have on charting at 4 lbs and then have a major growth spurt and become bigger. He's quite long which is why his torso may look thin to you. Ideally, he should be "square" with the same measurement from shoulder to floor as from the nape of his neck to the base of his tail. He's just a puppy, though, so this might just be an awkward growth stage. What does his breeder say? She will be the best judge of his adult weight if she is reputable and knows her lines. Some puppies grow quite a bit in the beginning and are finished by nine months. Others grow in their second year. |

Those growth charts are rarely accurate. I would guess maybe a couple more pounds. Some yorkies grow fast and then slow down, some start out slow and then pick up. some quit growing at around 6 months others still grow some after a year. So without knowing his family history it's anybody's guess. |

I have a coby body male that is quite heavy however it is because he is all muscle. Sometime its hard to go by just weight as a small coby male can weight more than a dog that is the same height but smaller structure. Some people believe: 3x weight at 2months or double the weight at 3months to get an average adult size. Doesn't always work. Quote:

I didnt see his parents sadly. I dont have any show aspirations or anything, he will just be our pampered little pooch. I suppose Im just curious, also I suppose its like a baby, you like to know they are on track so to speak, especially as we had to change his food. Both vets that saw him in our practice were happy with him and his weight gain. |
