substitute for Keopectate? My Dakota has IB, along with other issues. The vet advised when his stool begins to get loose to give him keopectate. Its worked fine for years. The problem, every store bothe drug stores and grocery stores either no longer carry it or carry the mint or cherry flavor and not the plain. Does anyone know if the flavored would hurt him or have a substitute product? Thanks in advance. |
Working with rescues diarrhea was often a problem. At our local feed store, I found a huge bottle of animal kaopectate (unflavored) for around $4. It worked the same as the human variety. |
I've always used Pepto Bismol for my guys. I get the original, not sugar free or cherry flavored. I think the dosage would be the same as what you've been giving with the keopectate. |
You can use Pet PectillinŽ Diarrhea Medication - can be purchased at petsmart or other pet stores. It contains pectin and Kaolin. Keopectate not too long ago used to be made up of pectin and Kaolin but it has recently changed to a bismuth subsalicylate formula (like Pepto bismal). |
thanks you guys....I'll check at petco or the feedstore. My vet said not to give pepto. |
I also use the Pet PectillinŽ for Maddie, she used to have a really sensitive tummy and it works really well for her. Have you tried probiotics or asked your vet about using them to help in digestion? This helped us alot. |
My dog Daisy has IBD and liver disease so diarrhea is a frequent visitor to our house. We choose to use dog acidophilus rather that we keep in the fridge which clears her up very quickly. Here is a link to the product. We love it. Acidophilus for Dogs & Puppies, Dog Probiotic, Kosher & Lactose Free - 16 fl. oz. - Dynamic Health |
Thank you all so much for the info..my rescues frequently have this and this will help tremendously............ |
