my yorkie wont eat my yorkie is 8 weeks old extra small weighs less thnn one lb how much should he be eating hes very playful |
:wavey: Welcome to YorkieTalk! I always kept food down for Sophie when she was small and I think she ate up to 1/4 cup per day but it's been awhile. Since your yorkie is so young be sure you have Nutrical handy for a sugar boost if needed to guard against hypoglycemia. Karo syrup will work, too. Your breeder, vet or even your puppy kibble bag should have feeding amount per age available for you. Be sure your puppy gets lots of nap time as they wear out quickly from playing. What's your puppy's name. Post a photo when you can :)! |
Welcome to yt! When I got Emmie I was feeding her dry food. My breeder told me to count the number of kibbles I put in the bowl and then keep watch of it and the time. Always make sure that it is more that she would eat. By doing this I was able to make sure she was eating and how much. |
I would make sure that your baby is in a secure area like a x-pen. Then have a crate for her to sleep in, a pee pad, and food & water down all the time. My litter that is now 8 weeks old eat all day long. However, a new puppy will get stressed from a new area and not eat. Also, if they are over played with at this age they will forget to eat. I rescued a little girl about 5 months ago and she was around 6 weeks old. The breeder had no common sense. Anyway, she didn't want to eat either. I took her into the vet and explained my concern. I also explained that she had some low blood sugar attacks too. They gave her a shot of vitamin B which made her extremely hungry. From that day on she was fine. Check the gums often and give nutrical once a day. If the gums turn white or she is acting weird, give her some more nutrical. If you don't see an improvement within 15-20 minutes, rush her to the vet. Good luck with your little one. I can't wait to see pictures. |

If you don't have a large feeding syringe then take small amounts and put it in the puppies mouth. Don't let them play too much as that will take all his little energy. You can also put peanut butter on the roof of their gums for extra calories. |
my 3 yr old rescued yorkie Good Morning, We brought home Beautiful little BABY 2 days ago. she had just been fixed that Am, so we know she would be sleepy. She took to our home well and went right to her bed. But she doesn't want to eat. We are feeding her the food recommended by the shelter but she has very little interest in it. Oh I should add she is 3yrs. old and had been in a puppy farm. If there is any help or suggestions I would appreciate the help. Thanks |

We fed our tiny one chicken and rice baby food along with some plain yogurt and she gobbled that right up. |
You can also put some syrup in their food and water which entice them to eat and drink. Then once they start eating good, you can take the syrup out of the food, but leave it in the water until they are older. |

Does he have teeth? You might want to try some goat milk. Mix it half with distilled water. |
