pet insurance Any advice on pet insurance? Zoey is now nine weeks old so she is eligible.I ahve narrowed it down to three compainies. Any recommendations? :confused:Teresa and Zoey:aimeeyork |
I just purchased embrace as it was recommeded by someone on this sight , the premiums were not outragious and I am very happy with the coverage.. thier customer service was excellent at answering questions and it take about 10-15 business days to get a refund check!! |
I was looking for insurance and the one that got the best reviews for service, payment, coverage, etc., was Embrace. That's what I got for little miss Missy! :) |
I'm with Embrace also and have been very pleased. I recently learned about PetPlan that many people seem to like as well. These are the only 2 companies that I know of that offer coverage for genetic conditions like LP or liver shunt, and since yorkies are prone to several different conditions I felt it was important they be covered. Good luck! :) |

Trupanion Aww Zoey is growing up so fast! hehe I enrolled my lil one earlier this year after doing a lot of research and shopping around for policies and signed up with Trupanion pet insurance . They have been very helpful already, as we had to file an accident claim. I don't know what i would have done if he wasn't insured. What I like about trupanion is that you can pick your own deductible, they pay 90% of your vet bill, their premiums don't increase with pets age, as it does with most other companies, and they cover hereditary and congenital disorders. My monthly premium is affordable and i have full coverage..and it has already paid for itself with the surgery and meds we needed covered. I would recommend avoiding benefits schedules because sometimes these flat rates are far less than what your vet charges you. I also recommend to avoid routine coverage (regular exams, vaccines, etc), because you are just paying the costs through higher premiums thus not saving any money, but in most cases, losing money. Hope this help! :) :animal36 also, if you want an unbiased review, you should check out Pet Insurance Review - comparison of VPI, ASPCA, etc. |
good question.. :) I enrolled my lil one earlier this year after doing a lot of research and shopping around for policies and signed up with Trupanion (www.trupanionpetinsurance.com). They have been very helpful already, as we had to file an accident claim. I don't know what i would have done if he wasn't insured. It has already paid for itself. My premium is affordable and definitely gives me peace of mind, especially the accident and surgery ordeal we had to deal with over the summer. They are super helpful and suuuuper nice to deal with when you call with questions :D What I like about trupanion is that you can pick your own deductible, they pay 90% of your vet bill, their premiums don't increase with pets age, as it does with most other companies, and they cover hereditary and congenital disorders. I have petplan for Apple (haven't had to use it thank goodness), because it covers genetic things lik collapsed trachea, luxating patella, and any other thing that may happen, due to genetics or predisposal of the breed....Of course they can't have it, when you take out the policy...Apple was diagnosed w/LP, grade 1 at a year old...Hopefully, she'll never have to have surgery, but at least I'll be able to handle the deductible and 20%, if she does...She didn't have it, when I got the policy, btw...I have a rather large deductible, so the monthly payments are only about $17.50 a month...I'm willing to pay that for peace of mind... |
pet insurace thanks to all for the good advice. I chose Petplan for my girls. Any one that does not have insurance should reconsider. I lost my last yorkie to a liver shunt and believe me, you do not want to pay for that without insurance. Teresa, :aimeeyorkZoey and :aimeeyorkAbbi |
Insurance for my Tiny I am so confused! I have never had insurance for a pup before! Sounds like petplan and embrace are good. Are there any questions I should ask when I call, I have no idea what to ask about! I am lost! Just want to make sure I get the right insurance for her! She is only 3 months old! Thanks for the help! |
