Ear smells I have noticed a strong smell in my 15 week old Yorkies ear...I asked the vet about it and he didn't notice anything and even my Husband doesn't semll it and he has a strong sence of smell...has anyone noticed a smell in their puppy's ear...maybe its normal ? I just know my 5 year old Yorkie doesnt have it. |
Usually when the ears smell it means they have a yeast infection in their ear |
A strong odor can indicate an ear infection, yeast growth, ear mites (black spots), or wax and dirt buildup. If your vet wasn't concerned and if your baby isn't doing any head shaking or ear scratching, you can probably rule out infection and mites. I would try swabbing the ear flap with a cotton pad and combing out the ear hair with a flea comb. If your baby is only 15 weeks, there probably isn't much ear hair. Don't stick anything in the ear canal. Most importantly, keep the inner ear dry when you bathe your baby. Perhaps someone else can suggest a safe ear cleaner. I personally haven't tried any yet. |
Maybe it's not the pups ears that smell but his breath? I know that sounds funny but when our little Tuffy lost a few teeth just after we got him I thought I'd smelled a yucky smell in his ears too but finally caught him asleep & took a good wiff of his ears. Good luck figuring it out. :) |
