Nature's Variety-Raw Thinking of adding/switching to this and have questions.
 
Hey there,

I've been feeding Sadie a home made raw diet that was formulated by someone with much research in dog nutrition. She loves it and we're doing very well on it.

My question is what do you all think about adding an occaisional medallion of nature's variety raw to her already good raw diet. I would add them in here and there and give her different meat and veggie combos from their premade foods.

Is this a good idea? Does she need different varieties of meats and veggies like I think she does or would changing it around too much make her sick instead?

Let me know those of you that are better at dog diets than I am.

I believe in raw feeding 100% and i think it makes sense to add more varieties of meats to her diet, but let me know if i'm wrong.

For those that feed NV raw, do you use the same one over and over or change up what flavors you buy?

I feed a PMR diet but I usually have NV medallions on hand for emergencies! Maybe some would disagree with me but I don't see a problem with them getting those on occasion. It is a lot more expensive and I don't always trust store bought foods but sometimes it's just easier for me to do that.

I think this is a fine idea! Variety is great. In any given week the dogs get 2 or 3, sometimes even 4 different proteins.

We also feed PMR and also keep some pre-made stuff on hand for every now and then. However, I do want to point out that there has been an issue with NV and their use of denaturant in their food. The denaturant is only put in food labeled not fit for human consumption. Some people are okay with this, some aren't. I don't trust NV anymore. Another YT member (viviansnickers, I believe), emailed Primal and it was confirmed that their food does NOT contain denaturant and can be fully consumed by humans. Yay! :thumbup:

I would recommend Primal also over Nature's Variety if you want to use a pre-made product.

Can you vary the proteins in your original recipe? When you say you are feeding a raw diet, can you expound on what you are feeding? Is it ground? BARF? Prey model?
