Paranoid of Hypoglycemia Lola is my first puppy ever so feeling like a nervous mom is normal haha. She's only 4 months old! |
I had one go hypoglycemic once and it was so scary! Now I always leave dry food down that they can get to any time they need it. I have always found my Yorkies to be too finicky to only feed at certain times because they never want to eat what you put down when you put it down. Though it sounds like yours might be a really good eater! ;) Two lbs in one month does sound like a lot but I have no real clue if it is too much. Leaving dry down always just gives me some peace of mind. If it makes you feel better I would go ahead and feed her again, but that's just me. :D |
Thank You! |
Hypoglycemia is not common in a dog as old as your or as large as yours. You usually only have to worry when they are tiny and in the fiirst two months of life. At four months feeding 3 times a day is plenty. She probably vomited from the stress of going to the vets and getting her shot |
At four months and seven pounds, Lola isn't really at risk of hypoglycemia anymore. |
I free feed Pixie and she eats when she is hungry. I really think as long as she is eating and drinking she wont get hypoglycemic. It is usually when they are real small and if they are throwing up a lot. Once in the car on the way to the vets is normal with some dogs. Some dogs get motion sickness. You could try taking her for short car rides every now and then so that she gets use to the car. |
I used Nutri-Stat to avoid hypoglycemia, but as others have said it usually only happens to really young/small pups. I stopped giving Wookie Nutri-Stat when he was 12 weeks. |
Thank you all! I'm at ease finally. The vet approved of her new eating schedule 7 in the morning 1 in the afternoon & 7 at night (Or 8 sometimes replacing the 7) Also they told me to leave a little dry food out between hours so she can get some food if wanted. But what if she eat's all that food? Should I give her her meal, or nothing more? It'll mix her eating schedule |
