Hair Loss in my baby Morkie We just got the sweetest baby Morkie for Christmas and she is lossing her hair. The pictures we received from the breeder of Miley from 2 wks up showed alot of hair but when we picked her up on Xmas eve (Miley is 9 wks old) she has lost a significant amount of hair. I just thought she hadn't got all her hair (I was so excited to get her that it didn't dawn on me that she had hair in earlier pictures). The breeder casually mention her "sparse" hair when we were getting her..but I didn't ask any questions (now i realize that was stupid). I took Miley for her shots this week and still wasn't thinking anything about her lack of hair but my VET laughed and said it looked as though I would eventually have a hairless dog - he didn't see anything that indicated a skin problem and thought it was genetic. I called the breeder and of course she claims she hadn't noticed that Miley was lossing hair and had no idea why this would be happening. She later called back and suggested that I visit a Derma Vet. The Derma vet did skin scraps and found a dermivex mite and is now treating for that - but wouldn't say that that was our problem. Just looking to see if anyone has had a puppy that had this type of mites where their puppy was actually experiencing hair loss or any other suggestions. We love our Miley but we are really hoping she gets her hair back! |
So glad you went to the Vet Dermatologist. Our experience with that type of Vet is very positive. Hope the fur starts growing out soon and sorry your furbaby is going through this. |
Yes my Chachi had it and it causes hair loss. It will grow back after shes mite free |
Sorry about your little one, I am certainly hoping that your breeder , who suggested the derm vet it willing to pay for the visit as well as any meds your little one might need.. I would be soo angry!! |
did you mean demodex mite? demodex is from the mother dog and it is a sign of a poor immune system to not balance out the mites in the skin :( basically demodex is a tough one as my friend has been working with this for 5 years - many times they use ivermectin which is a strong off label drug to kill the mites. What are they giving you for this in such a young dog? There is another drug they use now as well but the name is escaping me. If it is ivermectin never mix it with ketoconozole which is an antifungal as those two are toxic together. Is the hairloss around the eyes and mostly on face or all over the body? |
some info Red, Puppy, & Follicular Mange (Demodectic, Demodex) in Dogs Demodicosis (Red Mange) in Dogs this is one of the signs of a poor immune system which is prevalent in the yorkie breed from inbreeding of this breed damaging the immune system thus leading to allergies, mites, ibd, hypothyroid etc all auto immune diseases |
