Runny eyes My dog's eyes constantly run. He has eye boogers and the tears leave stains under his eyes. I clean the area everyday with a product that I purchased from Petsmart but this continues to happen. Are there any products or home remedies that I can try to reduce the tears and staining? |
Try changing his water to distilled drinking water. I've heard chemicals in tap water can exacerbate the teary eyes. |
Thanks. I will give it a try. |
I don't know anybody that got rid of tear stains competly it is normal for dogs to get those. Have you ever heard of Pure bites treats (beef liver flavored) that is the main ingredient in the products of tear stain removal. http://www.petco.com/Assets/product_...968000031C.jpg it is dryed freeze and beef liver is the one and only ingredient in the treats. It is supper easy to to break into smaller pieces as well. what some groomers recomend is that you shave off the tear stain area completely and start fresh and hoping they stay away. good luck with everything. P.S. there is also the treats called Pure Snacks. It is the same thing as long as the only thing in it is beef liver only. :) |
I will look into it. Thanks |
My ayla had realy bad eye staining rusty colored eye buggies. I would clean them every day and sometime 2 and no matter what I did it wouldnt clean up. Tried apple cider vinager, change her water to distilled, bought some expensive eye cleaner cant remember the name it also had a powder in it, did not work. The only thing that stopped the staining was Angle Eyes it realy works the rusty eye gunk is gone but she still continued to have eye drainage, it started to stink after awhile like strong cheese. It turned out to be a problem with her eye glands not producing the oils, this was not the cause of the rusty stains though she has had this for a long time since I got her. I told my vet what I have her on and she said it was fine to use if its working. I used it at its dosage amounts and split it up to twice a day and when I noticed I no longer had rusty eye gunk I have lowered her dosage to 1/2 the amount. She just recently got sick so I quit giving it to her, so far it has not come back and she has only been on it for month. I will wait to see if it comes back but if not I will discontinue the use of it untill it does at this point. Hope this helps. |
Apple cider vinegar does work for some people and probably all the other things work too but the problem is that it really depends on what's causing it. I would try all apple cider vinegar first to see if it helps. It won't hurt. I personally would not recommend angel eyes.... 10 Good Reasons to Give Your Pet Apple Cider Vinegar | The Real Owner |
