8 weeks and humping? My puppy is 8 weeks old and has decided to begin humping things. I feel like he's too young for that but maybe I'm wrong. Has anyone had this issue or have any advice to control it?? |
Can't help you out. Sorry. Jack is 7 months old today and still (knock on wood) has not started doing that yet. |
well at least he's a boy. :) I have a 19 week old female pup that seems to do that to her sister every once in a while. oye. All I've done is tell her to stop! after we're done chuckling. I wonder if this willl continue. |
At that age they are only showing their dominance over whatever it is they are humping, just make sure you don't let him hump (dominate) you! :) |
My Harleyman is only 8 weeks old also. He humps all his toys! All the info I have read says they won't hump or show aggression til 5 months old. Well my furbaby brakes that mold. He also has temper tantrums. He was not being teased or harmed in any way. I just picked him up to keep him out of the glitter on the floor. Well he let me know he did not want to be picked up! He wanted to be left alone and eat glitter. I made him go into a submissive position and it seems to have done the trick. Is anyone else experiencing this? Am I the only one having this problem? |

As for putting your little puppy into the "submissive" position it is NOT a good idea whatsoever. :( You need to work with him in a positive manner and use positive reinforcement. He should be with him momma still to help him learn proper behavior since he is not it is your responsiblity to teach him proper behaviors. Dogs do not have temper tantrums and he is acting inappropriately because he was not allowed to learn from him family prior to coming to you. :( |
I seem to have upset you and I'm sorry. I'm a newbie and I'm learning everyday. Reading everything I can get my hands on. I can assure you I am not mistreating my yorkie. He is very well taken care of. I understand your concerns and your negativity has impacted the way I will use this forum, if at all. I only want help and positive reenforcement. |

I have wondered if this will last as well. |
Hmmm. I wonder if its is just a dominance thing. The two pups I have are very different. One is very dominant and the other will just go with the flow. The one doing the humping is the of course the dominant one. All I've found on this is to distract them when their doing it but how do you watch them 24x7 :) I guess I "expected" this out of a little boy but not out of any of my girls...so of course we couldn;'t help but chuckling at first. Oh boy :) |
newyorkiemom, I just posted same issue in another thread. Not sure what to do, but I tend to lean the way that megansmomma thinks. Every time I look at Frisco, I see a displaced puppy, and I feel bad. There's nobody his size in our neighborhood who wants to play, just a 9 month old shepard and a lab that acts like a horse. It isn't negativity, it's just a sad fact, I think, one of those human dominance problemas. And I bonded with him out of emergency, and I am certain that one day I will have to unbond, and vow to do my utmost to make sure he's cool with it when that day comes. such a sWEEtie |
I was brushing Sandy today and he jumped off and checked out my feet (I've my ski socks on, it's cold here!) Then he started humping me     I also noticed he's lifting his right back leg and he's quite aggressive today. I quickly stood up and walked away. He's 19 weeks old. |
Thanks for that!! How old is he? I also walk away when Harley gets too rough and bites really hard. |
