Harness or Leash I told our kids not to use a leash on small dogs. One took their tiny Morkie (about 3#) to the vet and asked about this while there. They said it wasn't true leashes were fine. |
Did you mean to say collar or harness? Leashes attach to both so your question is a little confusing. If you meant to ask if collars were okay, the answer is no. Yorkies and other toy breed dogs have delicate throats and are prone to a condition called collapsed trachea. Always use a harness (with a leash. :D LOL!) Collapsed Trachea in Dogs |
We always use harness's. They have such small & delicate trachea's. Collars would have to be a little tighter around their necks to keep their small heads from slipping through. |
Chokefree harnessess. See their album pictures. |
In full agreement with those above, always use a harness with a leash, as you can't be yanking on their little necks as you are walking them (referencing above again, can lead to a collapsed trachea). It's scary that a vet would tell you otherwise... |
I agree. I never had any idea about harnesses, etc. Jackson is even a bigger boy at nearly 13lbs but his neck is still so fragile, one tug and he "chokes" so it's harnesses for us  |
I use a harness because I have heard that yorkies can calapse their own tracheas if you use a collar. |
Thanks everyone. I always knew that but when the vet said otherwise I was shocked and thought maybe things had changed. I sent them the article above to read for themselves. I did mean to say collar or harness instead of leash. I am soooo tired from the last couple days.:dogzzz: |
I have harnesses for my boys. I like the Lupine Roman-Style Harness the best but Puppia is great to. I have both and change off. Lupine Small Dog Products |
Listen to the YorkieTalk experts! Your vet should know better. |
