Vet won't clean my baby's teeth! Prince's vet here in GA, nor his vet in Tampa refuse to clean his teeth because of the severity of his collaspsing trachea. They said that they do not feel comfortable giving him anesthesia. His teeth are in really good condition, this was for his annual cleaning. He had his teeth cleaned last year, before he was diagnosed. I guess if he needed something major that required sedation, I would have his teeth cleaned then. I'm waiting to hear back from his vet here in GA to discuss this futher. I appreciate the fact that they don't want to do anything that might be fatal.:( What do you think? |
Since they aren't full of tartar, I don't think you even have to think about this right now. There is no reason to have them cleaned. Just do the best that you can with homecare... |
You may wish to look into something like this: Welcome to Teddy?s Pride? Oral Care Home Page . It's a "probiotic" that you can sprinkle on food. It will whiten teeth, freshen breath, all that good stuff. There is a human equivalent called EvoraPlus that has (in some patients) even reversed gum disease ... which is what this stuff has been developed to prevent. At any rate, if your pup can't have his teeth cleaned, then something like this may be the answer to helping keep his teeth in good health. Just googled EvoraPlus. Had never heard of it before. There is a product for dogs/cats called Teddy’s Pride Pet Oral Care - Welcome to Teddy?s Pride? Oral Care Home Page that's supposed to do the same thing. Wonder if it work? |
I open a new thread with Teddy's oral care on the title. I want to see peoples review on this product. Hopefully that will help us. Has anyone uf you used it before? Do you like? does it work great? thanks :) :) :) |
I would go with the vets recommendation and not put him under unless necessary. |

I would just do everything possible to keep his teeth clean. It sounds like you're already doing a good job of that :) |

Thank you Lee B, Roxy Luv and Lysiane Souris for your responses. I just read about "Teddy's Oral Care" on another thread...I think it was the one Lysiane Souris started. It sounds great, if your dog eats soft food...then it could be sprinkled on, but what do you do if only dry kibbles are given? I wonder if they have a toothpaste or something that is ordorless and tasteless that you put into water? I'll have to read up on it. I'm happy with CET, but I am open for other and all suggestions. |

there is teeth cleaning you can do with putting them under, they were advertising it in the pet store that I go to |
