Need insight, Please Zoey was spayed yesterday morning. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...yers-zoey.html My concern is that she has not taken a poop since the night before her surgery. I know they did take a stool sample to test while she was there (negative) but I would think she should have gone by now. She is being fed a little over half or 3/4 of what she was before (based on vet tech recommendation) but still is significant in my opinion. Any advice or experience? Thank you! |
I know pain meds can constipate people. but if she didn't eat for a day that could do it too. |
From what I can remember it was about a day or so after the surgery before mine went. You can always call the vet if it gets to be too long and you're concerned but for now I wouldn't worry too much. You can try giving a little canned pumpkin if you think she's constipated. |
I don't remember with Maggie, but when Hot Rod had his surgery, he went 2 or 3 days before pooping. Remeber, she fasted the night before and the meds knock their systems out of whack. I would say if she doesn't poo by Sunday, then maybe call the vet. How is she otherwise? Is she alert or still kinda quiet? Maggie was quiet for about 2 days. :) |
Thanks Everyone!! Not being able to have skin babies and this being my first puppy... I have the new mommy, constantly worry syndrome I think !!;) Quote:
She is doing well and I must admit, I almost spit out my coffee when you asked if she was still kinda quiet... I am not sure Zoey is ever 'kinda quiet' except when sleeping  She is doing very well. My little girl is not really loud but has so much energy, I think she will keep me young for a very long time ;). The hardest problem we have is keeping her from jumping or playing hard. We are successful in getting her to sleep some but otherwise it is a challenge. The softee cone has been a wonderful aid and so far we have found it works best at rest time when she wants to clean herself and gets too interested in her stitches. It is soft so when she tuckers out, she can easily sleep with no discomfort. Thanks again, I appreciate the insight and concern -- you all are wonderful! |
It is common for people to get constipated after a surgery so I assume its the same for animals |

I'm glad that she is doing well and I'm glad that the Softee is working out. Thanks. :) |
