How long to they eat poop?
 
Reesie is 5 months old and he is still eating his poop. I started him on the pineapple about 3 days ago, giving him a chunk twice a day. How long does it take for the pineapple to start working? Is this something he will out grow? Thanks! :)

Stephanie, our vet told us with dogs that eat their own poop to sprinkle a little bit of meat tenderizer on their food. She said it makes their poop taste bad. Now how in the world can poop taste good in the first place? Anyway, after a while (I would say a week or two) it worked!

We did this with two different dogs and it worked. Just thought I'd let you know.

Cooper would try to eat her poo after she ate too fast. Her poo would have pieces of food in it.?. I freaked out. LOL I never put anything in her food, she didn't make it a habit though.

I would think after 3 days, if pineapple was going to work, it would. Maybe you could try something else.:confused:

The meat tenderizer works the best.....although, I have a female that is 11 years old....she hasn't given it up yet.........I have to immediately pick up poops. I have a couple of pups that don't eat it but, use it as toys; tossing it in the air.

Lucky has never eaten his poo...although, he never passes up the chance to gobble cat and rabbit poo!!UGH!!I constantly have to keep my eyes open when we are on our walks!! LOL

LMAO! When Mimi had pups, I'm positive that they waited til I left the room & when I came back...there was poop everywhere!

You know, we tried the meat tenderizer, and it was too salty. He would not eat his food. I thought the pineapple would work, cause it has the same ingredient as the meat tenderizer. :(

Wow. I have never heard of anything like this before. Glad I stopped in and read this. Is there a way that this can be prevented? I havent received my baby yet.

Most of them will do it for a while. The best remedy is to pick it up right away.

Is meat tenderizer salty? I thought it was just enzymes that start to break down the meat.

Oh I see you can buy it plain or seasoned. Try the plain

Stopping Dogs From Eating Poop

It is a learned process. They learn from their mothers....mom's diapering them....so, they pick it up. It is animal thing, mother's keeping the pups and den clean. Pups pick it up. It's up to the breeder to hopefully turn around a bad habit. Doesn't always work before leaving the breeders house, so the owner needs to continue with the process. Immediately picking up poops, not leaving anything to chance. A strong no when caught in the act. Some, of the additives bought from online pet sites are very dangerous and can cause fatal results....so, I wouldn't recommend them. Most pups outgrow it.

I guess untill it stops being interesting. Had it happen a few times. The last time I saw him do it, out of revulsion, I screamed, (UGGHAGGH! No! That's bad). Never happened again. Some pups are poop eaters, usually the ones that want to eat everything they see.
