Swelling of vaccination entry????? Oops, subject line should read, swelling at vaccination entry! On Monday my furbaby received the last of his puppy shots plus the rabies shot. While brushing and petting him today, I noticed a dime sized bump in between his shoulders it appears to be where the vaccination was given. When I touched it didn't seem to bother him at all. He continues to play, eat, sleep, and relieve himself as normal. I called the emergency vet and explained to her what I felt, she reassured me that this was normal and that the bump may be there for several months and not to worry about it unless it gets bigger or it begins to become bothersome to him. I felt a little better, but wanted to know from the real "experts", better known as yorkie owners, if anyone of you have ever experienced this reaction to a vaccination? Thanks and happy holidays! At first, I was kinda worried bc your kiddo was given Rabies on the same day as other vaccines (rabies should be given separately, at least 3wks apart, and given alone)...but then I saw this was all given on Monday, and he sounds like he's doing good :). Hard to say at this point if the lump is permanent (would then be under the umbrella term "vaccinosis") or if it will go away...only time will tell. If it does not go away...you kinda need to approach all future vaccines w/ add'l precautions, esp. bc you don't know which vax this "lump" was caused from. You may want to phone vet and ask which vax was given in this location...they may have give the other vax above one of the hind legs, so at least then you could figure out which vax is causing this. |
It is fine, Scruffs had that. It's just the immune system fighting the diseases from the vaccines. Nothing to worry about unless he starts showing signs of pain or something else. |
Thanks, Wylie's Mom for the info. I was in the room when the vaccines were given and it appeared that they were both given at the same location, between the shoulder blades. He's had no reaction to the vaccines before, the only new/different vaccine he recieved this time was rabies. I'll play it by ear and watch for any other side effects. Thanks again and happy holidays! |
Thanks, nneessaa for the reply, I really appreciate it. I'll be watching for other reactions or pains. Thanks again, for the reassurance. Happy holidays to you and yours! |
I forgot to mention that Scruffs gets only three vaccines, Parvo, Distemper, and Rabies since he had bad reactions as a puppy from them all. He gets them at least a month apart when he needs them. He got a lump like that and was fine, vet said it would go away shortly. It did. Just my experience I am not an expert like Ann (Wylie's Mom). |
