What treats are good for puppies Hi. Chloe is 4 mos. I have been using her food as treats but I think she is catching on to this. What do you give your puppies as treats? |
I do the same thing, pretending kibble is treats, I'm pretty sure that by now Josephine knows its just her regular food, but likes being hand feed to much to care lol Every now and then though I like to mix it up a bit and my two favorites are Little Stars (Sweet Potato) treats and plan Cheerios |
I give mine small pieces of fruit or cheese,cherios, yogurt drops, and salmon treats |
I did that when Winston was younger too. It only took a couple months for him to catch on as well :D I think treats are a good supplement to their diet so something other than food may be a good idea anyway. I do a couple things for Winston...there is a large variety of dehyrated proteins on the market that come in treat form. Right now Winston has turkey but he loves chicken and beef just the same. Another thing he absolutely loves is frozen blueberries. They are his all time favorite and knows when I head towards the freezer he has done something really great! When I first gave him the blueberries, I had to make sure it was thawed enough for him to bite into so he could taste the actual blueberry - now he takes them frozen solid because he knows when he bites into it he will get the yummy taste in his mouth. My vet did recommend to give him no more than 5-6 per day b/c if he only eats blueberries it might effect his bloodsugar. |

Some of Lucky's favourites are celery, broccoli, green pepper, and cheese...that's from our food! His 'treat' treats are the Ceasar Delights and Chicken strips these are made from 100% chicken breast meat and they are dried!! Great deal! Above all though...he LOVES celery!! lol |
We do give our girls the odd honey nut cheerio . . . I give about two a week (though they have been getting one a day for the past few days as I am trying to teach them to sleep in their big-girl beds). I usually give them a tiny piece of carrot, green been or apple when I am cutting them up. . . HOWEVER, if I am training and need a high value treat I buy Wellness puppy treat and cut each treat in to 4 pieces. |
Tatum gets Cheerios as treats pretty much exclusively. They are low in fat and calories and she loves them! ;) |

Sandy gets boudoir biscuits for treats as recommended by my vet and the breeder. They're low fat and Sandy loves them. I always cut them into tiny pieces. He usually gets them when we're training. |
I never knew about the cheerios, I am going to try that but I usually do the charlie bears chedder cheese! 3 calories per one. |
Lexi loves small soft treats (often refered to as training treats or reward treats), like Bil-Jac Little-Jacs Training Treats for Small Dogs - Treats & Biscuits - Dog - PetSmart. They are great for training because you can break them apart easily. Lexi goes nuts over them. |
steamed organic green beans, cloud star farmstand dyhdrated apple slice (very low fat) and buddy biscuits (very small and all vege's, so again, low fat)...Of course they get their bully sticks, when I've just got to have some peace and quiet lol.... |
Zuke's Mini Naturals are great, really small treats, made for training, that you can break apart. |
