Rotation diet? I'm reading a lot in this forum about people having their babies on a "rotation diet". What exactly does this mean? How often do you rotate? Do you wean when you rotate? Thanks |
I've heard it can be good in helping prevent allergies to certain things and most people change up the protein sources (i.e. chicken, duck, turkey, etc). I know for me personally... Jackson gets bored with food easily. I find that with switching it up every other bag, he will eat it without any problems. Right now he's eating Fromm Surf and Turf and when that bag is gone, we will go back to Nature's Variety Instinct. These are the only two foods I've found that he LOVES so I like to give him variety! |
Yeah....Max was eating the Orijen chicken. I thought the same thing, that he is getting bored so I bought Acana pacifica today. Maybe I'll try again in the morning when he's a little more hungry. Do you mix the old with the new food to allow him to transition? Do you need to since its the same 2 brands that you are alternating? |
Here's a really good article written by Dr. Duclos on the Benefits of Rotation.. The Benefits of Rotation Feeding |
Thank you for the article. So not only should I rotate protein sources, I should rotate textures ie. dry kibble and canned |

You can rotate proteins if you like - but please be sure to save some novel proteins in case your baby *ever* develops allergies. You can rotate food types if you like too, it's not a necessity - but your babies would probably be happy about the variety. Again, do save some novel proteins just in case... |

Dogs can develop allergies if they are on the same food for an extended period of time, but like Ann said, if you don't save any novel proteins, you'll have a problem if an allergy ever does develop. After getting some experience with Ellie, if I had a kibble-fed dog, I would likely not change it often. I would add people food to it for variety though. |
A rotation diet can also be considered a diet which mixes up kibble and Raw. I feed a rotation with primal raw in the AM and Acana kibble in the PM. :) I hope whichever rotation you choose, works out for you. Holiday Hugs- Snick & Viv |
Thanks for the info everyone. You all have been very helpful |
