Ok Ok I give up... After much lost sleep and worry my DH and I think it best that I cook for our Layla. She will not eat anything "dog food" in fact she hardly eats at all! So I am looking for a good "cooked chicken receipt" for her. Anyone?? |

Thank you. Layla is so little and so fussy but she will eat chicken and ham but not beef. We just want fat Yorkie pup. Not one that looks like it does not eat! She is healthy enough to tear it up with big brother. LOL |
Have you thought about putting her on a raw diet? Picky yorkies do tend to do well on raw. MANY YT'ers use premade, complete, & balanced raw diets such as Nature's Variety or Primal brands. Some even go to their butcher and get raw meat for their dogs and add supplements to create a balanced diet. I wish you all the best, many homecook as well and their dogs thrive so I hope it works out for you. Best of luck...I know how hard and frustrating it can be, many of us feel your pain! here are a few of my recipe combos: salmon, carrots, wild rice, sweet potato, oats, parmesan cheese skinless chicken breast, carrots, green peas, a little bit of corn, wild rice lean turkey, lentils, wild rice, veggies, parmesan I freeze the meals in small containers and defrost as needed. I add the homecooked meal to their canned food for a change of flavor. :) |
My mom has a Cobbie Chihuahua and the vet told mom not to feed the dog people food. Mom cooked chicken for this dog and he lost all of his hair. He looks horrible, like he has mange. But she said he wouldn't eat anything else. I think if she held out he would have started eating his science diet again but she wouldn't do it. Felt too sorry for him. He is fourteen years old, and she feeds him "CHOCOLATE" too...I told her it was poison for him and she just did it anyway....she is from the old school where you feed your dog anything it wants....but all lived for fourteen to sixteen years. Why do you think the vet said No chicken for her dog but Yorkies can eat it with no problem? |
Cooked food is a great option but you will need to discuss things with a vet or a nutritionist who can help you make sure it is balanced properly. An improperly fed diet whether kibble, homecooked or raw, can cause serious imbalances and thus serious health issues. As viviansnickers said, raw is a great option for Yorkies who are picky. We ourselves feed prey model which means like Viv said, we buy our meat from the grocery store/butcher (or we order from meat processing companies) and balance our food ourselves. I will point out that PMR feeders do not have to supplement if feeding correctly. We also do not feed any veggies or grains. Just 100% protein! :) Good luck with whatever you decide. I know it can be tough. |
