Foamy mouth, but not rabid This has happened twice. Both times at meetups. Once at a dog park, last time at a home. Uni looks like she just drank a bunch of water, but if you look closer at her mouth, it's all drooly and a bit foamy. Both times we wiped it off and her fur dried in a few minutes. But what is it from? These episodes are not like the time she ate a Thai curry noodle off the floor and had saliva drooly mouth for a week. That, I know what happened. Why is this happening? Do you think she is allergic or eating grass? I have personally not seen her eat grass with my own eyes. She does not get like that everytime she gets on grass. In fact, just at meetups. she has had playdates with Kaji and it didn't happen, just when there are lots of other dogs around. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? |
Oh my. This has happened to Lacey at our meetups. She actually foams at the mouth and it dripped the entire time we were there. It only happened during the indoor meetups. I asked my vet and did some online searching and from what I am getting it can happen when they are overly excited or nervous. It scared me so bad. Once we got home she was perfectly ok. Lacey does not like to be around other dogs, so I have been taking her to these meetups hoping it would help. |
Hmmm, that would make sense. Uni likes people more than she likes dogs. At the big meetups she doesn't mingle with the dogs. But she will play when it's just her and Kaji. I thought the same thing, take her to more meetups so she would get used to it. i don't know if she actually likes it though. Other dogs stealing her ball, and getting cornered by bigger dogs. Anyone else have this experience? |
The first time it happened I thought she was going into shock. I hope someone else has answers on this. We have another scheduled meetup on Sunday and I am know wondering if I should keep trying or if its best to stop taking her. |
Yep, my dad's dog Lily did this majorly when I brought Jackson over for the first time. She was sooo nervous/excited/unsure and starting drooling/foaming uncontrollably. Our old Golden Retriever did this as well when we brought a new German Shepherd puppy home years ago! |
Copper did this when he was still sick before we knew what was wrong with him, he would hide under the bed and come out with his mouth soaked and foamy. He also would wake me up in the night the same way:( He was having siezures but it was really hard to tell that they were actual siezures. His system was overloaded with toxins. He hasn't done it since we changed his diet. I guess that this wouldn't really apply to Uni but tht is the only time I have expierenced anything like it. I am interested in reading if other posters have to say. |
When I brought Doodlebug home Pebbles did the exact same thing. She drooled and foamed at the mouth for about a week every time she was in the room with him. It must be cause by anxiety or nervousness. Eventually it went away but I was just a wreck until she settled down. |

I've seen this happen too with a couple of dogs we've had in the past when they were overly excited, stressed, scared. It's scary to see, but they were fine. |
