I just had Bria chipped on Thur i had it done at the same time as her spay. like others have said i would hate for her to get lost and not have her tags on. This is prof that she does have a home!

My vet was reluctant to chip my girls until they were under anesthesia getting spayed, didn't want to hurt them with the big needle. I worried the entire time until then. In hindsight I would have gone with the split second pain and spared myself the worry. Absolutely get your baby chipped. Someday, it may be the only way to a reunion.

I wanted to get Derby the chip while he was neutered but my husband said it was unnecessary :( So he's neutered now, and I guess we'll see what happens in the future!

We do live in an apartment so i think he feels Derby is pretty safe, and any other time we go out he is in the backpack, on a leash, or in an inclosed dog park.

Home Again is the company that does the tracking/storage of the contact info of any microchip company. They also sell ID tags that have their logo on them. So what I mean is if you buy an ID tag from them, potential thieves would know your dog is chipped, then they may try to dig it out from under their skin.

Our breeder offered free microchipping. We gladly accepted.

After reading these posts however, I am unsure whether 'paperwork' was submitted by the breeder of if I am suppose to do it? I know I gave the chip number to my vet but will have to investigate this further.

Uni came chipped from the breeder as well. That just means they put the chip ID number sticker onto your paperwork, but you have to send in the papers with your info and payment. I think when you send in the contact info is when you pay, so unless the breeder already got your info and paid for you, you still have to do it. What I mean is, my breeder paid for the chip and putting it in, I paid for registering it.

We microchipped Nikko when he was neutered because we didn't want to have to keep a collar on him with a tag and worry about his trachea. We keep a really close eye on him and I can't see him ever having the opportunity to accidentally get lost, but I am much happier knowing that if that were ever to happen, we could find him!

Thanks for all the info. I will definitely get my baby microchipped. The vet suggests that I wait until I take him to get neutered so I will be sure to get it done then.

Mine are all micro chipped and I micro chipped my babies before they left for their forever homes as well. Rather be safe than sorry.

Do it! I recently had my 4 month old chipped and he didn't yelp or anything. The needle made me nervous, but the chip itself is the size of a piece of rice. I have peace of mind knowing that my furbaby is chipped and, heaven forbid, he were ever missing my chances are in my favor of reconnecting with him. Just a thought . . .

I would say sbsolutly get microchip. I suggest getting done while they are ready under anesthesia. I had a dog that was chipped and wore collar and tags . He got loose one night. I looked all night but I had to go to work the next morning. By the afternoon a good Samaritan found him, called me and me me at the vet to verify I was the owner. The vet scanned his chip, I showed I
identification and took my guy home.


In every sense go for it. Better safe than sorry. My new yorkie will ha ve it done.

I say yes to micro chipping. The one thing we can all do is ask our vets about their scanning habits. Do they scan every new customer's dog? Do they scan a high-cost dog like a Yorkie? They should and we can gently suggest that they do.

As a programmer I've spent three decades looking for ways to track information on plant floors, in shipping, and other company items. I've learned that the system you create is only as good as the determination of the people who are supposed to use it.

In trying to help Gen find Cookie I've done a lot of research on the chips and databases, looking for a way to see if he was scanned. I found some documents that state that most vets don't scan a new pet, citing the monetary benefits that they would otherwise gain through having a new customer.

Ask that they do the right thing, scan these little dogs. If you have the time, call the shelters and vets in your area and lead them into a chip discussion. Don't just go with the intent that you're looking for a particular dog. If Gen feels it's proper we can post the last 3 digits of his chip and you could ask about that. Scanning should be part of their standard operating procedure. It could find your own dog someday.

It may vary per vet, but my vet uses ResQ. There is NO registration fee. I paid for the microchip to be installed/implanted at the vet. She gave me the paperwork that went along with the online registration site. The website it very user friendly, u can upload a pic of your furbaby as well as describeany special markings, colors, sizes, etc that would help in idenfiying him/her. To my understanding there is no annual fee, once you're a member, you're a member without hidden fees.
