Raw feeding: How much Salmon oil shoul they get? So my little pack isn't big on fish at all. I try fresh cod or salmon and they don't like it much. I try to cook it just a little, no luck. They aren't big on the can fish either (except for Lucy that would of finish the whole plate if I didn't took it away from her after she eat more than half of it! lol :D) So how much mg of salmon oil a 5lbs yorkie should get in a week? And do they need any other vitamins or supplement except salmon oil? Do they need vitamin E? I feed they mostly prey model and give then NUTRO supplement about 3 times a weeks. Thanks... |

To answer your question, we use Ark Naturals Royal Coat which has both salmon (omega-3), borage oil (omega-6), and Vitamin E (remember when you feed salmon oil you need to also give Vit. E) and follow the directions on the bottle. For my 9 and 11lb dogs it's about 3-4 drops a day. Although I'm not familiar with Nutro.. maybe that has omega-3s and vit. E in it already? |

 Im not a raw feeder but this is what I use on both my dogs and cats and it has done wonders, my cats shed way less and my dogs look great. |

I am going to bump myself because I really need an answer and can't found it on the net? I read from 100-400 UI of vitamin E. So how much for a yorkie and how much salmon oil a day? Quote:

I give a salmon oil capsule 5 times a week. I would do everyday but some days I forget. I haven't had any problems, their coats are great. |
I found this answer on my raw feeding site.... 1000mg fish oil per 20lb body weight is the recommended dosage. For theraputic use,1000mg per 10lb body weight. Hope that helps... remember to try to get a fish oil without soy and you only need omega-3's Good luck! I'm actually looking for a good source myself.... |

With the prey model, you really have to know what you're doing to balance it correctly. Most people consider balance and complete measured by AAFCO definition. This is a really good chart, Tikka from Dogster put together. I saved it off so I didn't lose it. Tikka must of put a lot of time into developing it and deserves a ton of recognition. http://www.lukesallnatural.com/downl...edingGuide.xls |
